About OJ and his Rag Tag Swing and Gypsy Jazz Orchestra

Classic swing jazz reminiscent of Glen Miller, Louis Armstrong or Django Reinhardt with a bit of Beatles or the Kinks for good measure

Hi, I'm Oliver and ‘OJ and his Rag Tag Swing and Gypsy Jazz Orchestra’ is my swing jazz band with a twist. We're myself, Oliver j Staines on Ukulele accompanied by my colleages chosen from some of the best jazz musicians around on Tuba, Trombone, Drums, Clarinet or other authentic and characteristic swing and gypsy jazz instruments. The band brings to life the best loved sounds of the early jazz movements but often throws in a more contemporary slant. Whether it’s the cry and wail of the New Orleans and Dixieland jazz era, the suave gypsy swing of the Hot Club of Paris, the smooth sentimentality of the Glen Miller or Duke Ellington orchestras or the exotic passions of the Rumbas, Tangos and Cha Cha Chas which took the US and Europe by storm they capture all the classic sounds. But watch out as we also like to throw in the odd Beatles tune or even Queen or Amy Winehouse where it fits. Our performances appeal to all ages and go down just as well in trendy East London bars as they do for 80th birthday celebrations. We have a wide repertoire to choose from and allow clients to freely select pieces they wish to suit their occasion. Timings can be flexibly planned around your schedule too. We roughly take a break every hour but other than that we’re flexible. We cover most of London and the South East of England so don’t mind travelling to where we're required. We think this is the ideal entertainment for all events - weddings, summer BBQs, fundraisers, dinners, dances etc.  Our basic line up is as a quartet with Ukulele, Trombone, Tuba and Drums (see our videos here for examples) however we can come out as smaller units if there are restrictions for example on space, noise or budget. Without drums we can perform as a trio of Ukulele, Tuba and Trombone (see our audio recordings here for examples) and we can even perform as a duo of Tuba and Ukulele.  We offer a personal quote taking into consideration the factors of each event however our basic pricing guide is £100 per musician for the first hour and £50 per hour afterwards. So for example the price for the standard quartet line up for two hours would be £600. We also offer reductions for repeat bookings! For further details send us a message with your enquiry. We look forward to hearing from you to discuss your needs. So do take a moment to have a listen to our sound and video files on this site and see what you think. We have samples of our jazz pieces as well as examples of Latin styles as well as some pop tunes, all taken from some of our recent live performances. Also search 'OJ And His Rag Tag Swing and Gypsy Jazz Orchestra' for more videos. Oj and the Orchestra

These guys were AMAZING !! There was minimal effort on our part to book them up and provide instructions, Oliver was very quick to reply to emails, which was great given all the other organisation required for a big event. They were prompt, very stylishly dressed for the part, and completely self sufficient in setting themselves up. AND then they started playing ....SPOT ON MUSIC which was absolutely perfect for the setting (a very sunny Norfolk Arts and Crafts House wedding reception early afternoon drinks)!! ... Everybody commented on how good they were and what fun they added to the afternoon. They were perfect, if you're looking for some light fun music for an event then book these guys up. I would rate them 100 out of 10 if I could. Would recommend to anyone and will do for the next party that happens... THANK YOU SO MUCH

Hi Oliver, I just wanted to say a huge thank you from both myself & Dan here at Two PennyBlue for bringing the 'Rag-Tag Swing & Gypsy Jazz Orchestra' to perform at our event at the weekend, and please pass on our gratitude to all the band members they all did a fantastic job. It was great that they could come and join us at this year's event and the positive feedback we have had from the client has been tremendous. Thank you again for helping to make it such a fantastic day.
