Tessera Quartet

The Tessera Quartet was established in October 2025 by four graduates of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and the Royal Northern College of Music. United by a shared passion for chamber music and a belief in its power to connect with audiences, the Quartet is committed to bringing high-quality live music to communities across the UK and Europe. The aim of the Tessera Quartet is to make classical and instrumental music accessible to the general public, regardless of age, background or location. The Quartet regularly performs in smaller towns and communities that are often overlooked by the traditional classical music circuit, bringing professional-level chamber music beyond the major concert halls and cultural centres. At the heart of Tessera’s work is the belief that high-quality music should be accessible to everyone, irrespective of where they live. The Quartet strives to create concerts that are welcoming, engaging and relevant to a broad range of audiences, while maintaining the highest standards of musical performance. Tessera is also passionate about championing voices that have historically been underrepresented within the classical canon. Every Tessera concert features at least one work by an underrepresented composer or artist, including composers from Black and minority ethnic backgrounds, female composers, and other composers whose music has historically received less recognition and performance. Through this programming, the Quartet seeks not only to diversify the repertoire presented to audiences, but also to encourage curiosity and discovery. Alongside performing existing repertoire, the Quartet is committed to supporting the development of new music. Tessera regularly commissions and collaborates with living composers, creating opportunities for new works to be written, performed and shared with audiences. By combining established repertoire with contemporary and newly commissioned music, the Quartet aims to demonstrate the breadth, relevance and continuing evolution of the string quartet medium. Tessera’s programmes are designed to take audiences on a journey, bringing together familiar works with new discoveries and exploring music from different periods, cultures and perspectives. Whether performing in a concert hall, a church, a community venue or an intimate space, the Quartet seeks to create memorable experiences that place audiences at the centre of the performance. Through its performances, commissioning projects and community-focused approach, the Tessera Quartet hopes to contribute to a more inclusive, diverse and accessible future for classical music.
