About Scotch on the Rocks

Ceilidh band
London
Public liability insurance of £10 million
Scotch on the Rocks is a fun and professional London Ceilidh Band, available to hire for any event!

We specialise in providing acoustic versions of ceilidh dances, so we are particularly suitable for intimate venues. Our music is fun and lively, mixing traditional tunes from Scotland, England and Ireland to guarantee all of your guests are up, jigging around on the dance floor! Even those with two left feet! We’ve hand-picked the best and most fun Ceilidh and Barn dances from all over the British Isles, including favourites like the Gay Gordons, Strip the Willow, Dashing White Sergeant and the Bridge of Athlone! Our ensemble of talented, young musicians are highly experienced in playing for weddings and other events. We use fiddles, guitar, bodhran and even accordion to get that classic ceilidh sound and our expert, experienced dance Caller can teach any crowd the steps from beginners to seasoned reelers! Clients usually book us for 3 hours in total with breaks, usually done in 2 sets to get maximum dancing time in, but 3 sets of 45 minutes is also okay! We’re based in London but play all over Surrey, Sussex, Kent, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Berkshire and Hampshire, we ever travel as far afield as Suffolk, Oxford, Dorset, Northamptonshire and Gloucestershire!

Customer questions

Can you perform covers?

We just do a fantastic ceilidh!

Do you have different line-up options?

We have different line-up options! Most often we go out as a 4-piece of Caller, Fiddle, Guitar and squeeze Box/Bodhran or a 3-piece of Caller, Fiddle and Guitar. But we can do larger line-ups and are always happy to take requests for different instruments!

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

It's expected that the timing will change a little before the day of the event so that's no problem at all! We always get in touch a couple of weeks before hand to officially confirm all the timings and details with you for the day :-)

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

We provide an iPod service during breaks, which can be either your own playlist or we have a carefully curated celtic music playlist we can pop on. For if time once set-up, during the break mid-way and for a first dance. You can also use our equipment for a disco with your own iPod after the ceilidh for an additional charge.

How much time do you need to set up?

45minutes!

Do you provide a caller?

Our band comes with an expert Caller as standard to guide all of your guests through the steps!

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

Yes please, feel free to make dance requests!

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA) included in your quote?

Yes it certainly is!

Can you learn song requests before the event?

We can usually accommodate requests for new dances with enough warning :-)

What do your clients love most about your performances?

The fun atmosphere we create and the way we're able to get everyone up on the dance floor!

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

Cripps Barn, RAC Club, Cecil Sharp House, Royal Berkshire Hotel, Cain Manor, The Ned, The Brewery, St Colombas Church, Buxted Park Hotel and many more including most venues across London...

Hello Scotch on the Rocks. You guys played our wedding at Cripps Barn at the weekend and my wife (!) and I would just like to say that you were absolutely outstanding and exactly what we were looking for. We had lots of nervous pals from overseas who had never ceilidh danced before and so many of them came up afterwards and said how much fun they had. One even said she needed to find a Scottish guy to marry. You were brilliant and really made the occasion for us. We also weren’t sure about booking a ceilidh band so far from Scotland but felt we were in great hands.

Many thanks to Scotch on the Rocks for playing at my wife’s 40th birthday party. They were brilliant, great calling to suit a crowd of novices and non-novices, and the sound produced by a 4 piece band was incredible. Everybody had a ball. Thanks guys.
