Professional musician, singer and guitarist from Nottingham.

Martin Jackson is a solo acoustic singer and guitarist based in Nottingham. Although a proficient songwriter, Martin takes delight in entertaining people with cover songs as part of making an event even more special through the performance of live music. Stemming from his diverse music taste, Martin prides himself on being highly adaptable. His soaring vocal and creative guitar arrangements cover a wide range of styles – he regularly performs sets of well known rock, pop, indie, blues, jazz, soul and folk songs, all depending on the type of event. Capable of laidback crooning, cheeky jazz flourishes, upbeat party vibes or full throttle rock n roll – Martin delivers the goods, and all performed with sincerity and passion. Martin is at all times a professional, and this comes from years of tireless experience gigging in both entertainment contexts and in performing original music. He has played in countless pubs, bars, restaurants and at weddings and corporate events, meaning Martin is always at ease with a crowd. This means if needed he can either become a vibrant personality on stage or alternatively tone things down as to become part of the background. During 2016, he undertook a 60-date tour of the UK’s Parkdean Resorts as part of the lauded caberet duo Twist and Shout, embracing the demand for utmost professionalism and high quality musical entertainment. Previous endeavours have taken him onto the Pepsi Max stage at the prestigious Download Festival, as well as YNot Festival and MacmillanFest. Notable artists he has performed alongside include Reef, Chuck Mosley, TesseracT, Jim Bob, Breed 77, Spear of Destiny and OPM. He has also made appearances in Classic Rock, Rocksound, Kerrang and Metalhammer magazines with regards to his role as lead singer for Nottingham rock band Emperor Chung. As well as his musical performance skill, Martin is also an adept sound technician. Possessing excellent audio equipment and a BA Hons degree in Popular Music and Music Technology, he is dedicated to ensuring all his shows meet a high standard of sound quality.

Customer questions

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

I pride myself on being as flexible as possible, but if the timings for your event change please let me know as soon as can, in case these clash with another booking I may have that same day.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes, I can provide a playlist or DJ service between my sets free of charge. If you'd like me to continue to run this until the end of the night after the performance is complete, there is usually charge of £100 unless otherwise agreed.

How much time do you need to set up?

Set up and soundcheck usually takes up to 30 minutes, but I like to arrive with plenty of contingency and will try to be you about an hour before showtime

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

Absolutely, I have a huge repertoire of over 400 songs which I can send to you after booking is confirmed. While I craft my setlists to every type of event, I'm very happy for you choose as many songs as you like for your special day to fit within the contracted performance time :)

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

Yes, I possess a full PA rig for my performances, so all I require is a power socket near to the performance area. NB: This does not include lighting

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

Please let me know if there are any songs you'd like to hear on your special day, as I'll be very happy to learn them if they're not already included in my repertoire document :)

What do your clients love most about your performances?

- My distinctive, powerful and adaptable vocals ("You can sing anything!") - My huge stylistic variety! This not only ends up appealing to a wide audience taste but also keeping them on their toes as to what comes next and really ramps up the excitement (You've just had Chaka Khan? Well here's some Dizzee Rascal...and then some Queen)

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

Notable venues I've performed at include: Download Festival, Donington Park Rescue Rooms, Nottingham The Underworld, Camden Town, London The Waterfront, Norwich Mercure Piccadilly Hotel, Manchester The Corporation, Sheffield The Fleece, Bristol

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

Far too many to name all of them, I pride myself on a hugely eclectic taste, but the biggies are... For my covers performances: Michael Jackson, Marc Rebillet, James Brown, Prince, Muse, Foo Fighters, Led Zeppelin, Pendulum, For my original music: Jeff Buckley, Opeth, Porcupine Tree, Alter Bridge, Soundgarden, Faith No More, Steely Dan, Talking Heads

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

Download Festival, Pepsi Max Stage at Donington Park, 2013 as lead vocalist for Nottingham rock band Emperor Chung.

Martin performed a two hour set at our wedding and he was fantastic from when we first contacted him to the performance itself. We searched a lot online for the right person and we were really happy with how everything went at the wedding - loads of people said about how good Martin was and asked where we had found him. I was so glad when people got up and danced during the second set and Tenacious D went down a treat! The best thing however was how personable he was - a wedding is such a personal day and it really made a difference that Martin was so warm and friendly. We wouldn’t hesitate to hire Martin again should we have the occasion!

With only a week and a halfs notice, Martin learnt all the songs my sister wanted at her wedding ceremony and helped me surprise the bride and groom. Thank you so much Martin - you did an excellent job and made the whole ceremony even more special. Sarah

We had Martin perform for my husbands 40th birthday party. Can’t recommend him enough, his performance was fantastic and we had a lot of guests comment on how great he was throughout the night. From booking through to the actual party Martin was very friendly, responsive and helpful. There was a wide range of music to choose from and nothing seemed to much trouble.

Martin was amazing, the whole event went through very smoothly. Martin contacted me before the event to make sure the playlist was to my liking taking into consideration personal requests. He was extremely friendly and the interaction between himself and my guests was excellent. I received many compliments from my guests regarding the quality of his performance and I would have no hesitation in recommending him to others.
