About The X & Y

If you're looking for a standard party band... Keep scrolling. These two do things differently.
Pop duo
Gloucester
Public liability insurance of £10 million

The X & Y are an electro-pop, groovecore funtime duo from the South West of England. Using keyboard, guitar, live percussion, synth, samplers, vocoder, groovebox and loopers, Alex Bayross (Alex & the Altar) and Carey Andrews (Lord Irving) combine male and female vocals to fulfill the axes of music: rhythm and melody - The X & the Y! Carey brings her training in classical singing and piano to inform the rich tapestry of harmony and melody while Alex uses The Altar to produce energetic tracks live on the spot. Packed with nostalgia tunes, dance music, singalongs, requests, originals, obscure meme music, soundtracks and theme tunes, it can get a bit weird in the right room. Classic 70s, cheesy 80s, bangin 90s, naughty 00s right up to current hits, dancing is compulsory and a good time MUST be had by all.

On Saturday we had LORD IRVING in to play with their trip, and we loved it! Carey had awesome vocals and a fun vibe and the drummer and bassist were both super cool. They played loads of nostalgic songs you haven't heard in years but still love and funked them up a bit too, thoroughly enjoyed. Will book again!

We hired LORD IRVING to do a pop punk set at our venue on Saturday and they rocked the joint! Had people up on their feet singing and dancing, great energy and cool choice of songs.

Customer questions

Do you have different line-up options?

We are a electronic duo however we both sing and can play solo independently if needed. We have an acoustic set up (keyboard, vocals, acoustic guitar), a mid-afoustic set up with the addition of electric drums and then a full set up with electric keyboards, guitars, drum machine and loop station for that big party sound.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

Just contact us to let us know and we will do our best to accommodate any changes.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes.

How much time do you need to set up?

We need 1 hour and a half for set up and then a further 1 hour and a half for pack down as well.

Can you roam around while you perform?

Unfortunately we are both keyboardists so we are unable to provide this service.

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

We usually tend to make up our sets as we are going along, based on the audience we are playing for. However we will always gratefully received preferences and a few requests, but we cannot guarantee that we will play these exact songs if the evening does not call for it.

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA & lighting) included in your quote?

All equipment is included in the quote, if you wish to have our govee lighting matrix (a wall of LEDs) then contact us regarding this and we will let you know.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

We will take a song request for first dance, yes.
