Customer questions
What do your clients love most about your performances?
The energy and the variety. Although I'm a solo act, I cover a lot of ground - from whisper-quiet folky tenderness to shouting, jumping pop and rock. I get you dancing along with me. Or weeping. And all points in between.
Which venues have you performed at in the past?
Too many to list, really.
Notably:
The Groucho Club
Cambridge Folk Club
Brixton Academy
Union Chapel
The O2 Arena
The Lexington
The Ritzy
And countless wedding venues.
Which artists have you been most influenced by?
The lyrics of Dylan, the fun and and variety of the Beatles, the experiments of Bowie, the rawness of Nina Simone.
What is the most high profile gig you've performed?
I played the main stage of the O2 Arena as a solo act. An absolute sea of people stretched before me and I had them in the palm of my hand...
What if my timings change after I've booked you?
I'm happy to be flexible with timings. I understand things often don't go exactly according to plan!
My job is to make my part in your event run as smoothly as possible and keep your guests entertained. I'm at your disposal.
If things run on extremely late I may have to charge for my time, but in my experience this is rare.
Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?
I provide this service as standard. I have a set of playlists that I typically use (which reflect my own style and personal taste) that I'm happy to share with you ahead of time.
I also invite you to make your own playlists!
If you'd like to use my PA for audio after I finish my performance, that's £50 p/h.
How much time do you need to set up?
30 minutes at a minimum. I usually arrive an hour before I'm due to begin. We can arrange my arrival time to suit your day.
Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?
I want to know what songs and artists you like best. Talking about music is half the fun of meeting new clients! I'll include as many as possible in my performance.
I prefer not to have every song choice dictated - I've played many shows and know what works. Knowing 10-20 favourites is the sweet spot.
Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?
All I need is a 13amp plug socket and a place to play.
If I'm to play outside, please protect me from the wind/sun/rain.
Can you learn specific pieces before the event?
Of course! Often this a first dance or a song to play as a couple walks up the aisle, but you may just want to hear something you love.
It takes time to learn something and get it up to scratch, so I charge a modest fee to learn a new song.
