About JB

South Yorkshire based versatile saxophonist. Chilled jazz vibe to Ibiza floor fillers for any occasion.
Saxophonist
Doncaster
Public liability insurance of £10 million

JB Sax graduated from City of Leeds College of Music in 2005 after studying jazz, contemporary and popular music. He was already playing semi-professional by this time, but went fully professional in 2005. He then spent the next few years perfoming nationally and overseas in various cover bands. In 1999 he joined the Royal Marines Band Service, where he began a career which would span 20 years. During this time he become the principal saxophonist, performing at many high profile events all over the World. He was a regular soloist at the annual Mountbatten Festival of Music at the Royal Albert Hall in London, along with other large scale televised events, such as the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. As a proficient jazz musician he was chosen on several occasions to perform as part of intimate jazz quartets and quintets for the Royal family at Buckingam Palace, Windsor Castle and Highgrove. JB Sax has performed with many well known singers including Alfie Boe, Ed Sheeran, Gary Barlow, Shirley Bassey, Katherine Jenkins and Kylie Minogue. Career highlights include performing as the lead saxophonist within the orchestra for the televised 90th Birthday celebrations for the late HM Queen Elizabeth II, and performing on ITV’s Saturday Night Takeaway. After taking a break from playing for a while, JB Sax is now very much back on the music scene and making a name for himself with his modern sound, while still offering musical sets spanning accross several decades. His verstility allows him to wow audiences and listeners with everything from early 20th century jazz, all the way up to 21st century Ibiza dance anthems.

Barrie performed at our wedding party last Saturday evening. He was absolutely amazing, and I’ve already recommended him to so many people who have asked about him. He was so easy to book, so friendly and he just slotted into the night so perfectly. I would definitely book again for another event. Thanks, Barrie! (10 / 10)

Customer questions

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

I always try our best to be flexible to help ensure your event runs as smoothly as possible. If timings change slightly in the run up to the event just let me know.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Absolutely. This is a really popular request and I actually offer this service for free. If you'd like a DJ service via my PA after the final set until the venue closes, I may be able to provide this for an additional fee.

How much time do you need to set up?

I usually aim to be at the venue 45 to 60 minutes before my performance to allow sufficient time to setup and sound check.

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

My set lists are usually fixed, but if you have a certain vibe in mind or any specific requests I'm definitely happy to chat through and make sure I find what works for your event.

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

Yes, as well as my saxophones I always bring my own microphones, PA system and basic lighting setup.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

If the song isn't in my repertoire already I am happy to learn any special songs for you. There is a £30 per song to allow for preparing tracks and practice time.
