About Gaynor Sutcliffe

Music tailored to pure ambient or ‘let’s get the party started’, sing along environments. Violin, piano and vocals and any requests taken.
Violinist
Clitheroe
Public liability insurance of £20 million

After studying violin and piano at the Royal Northern College of Music and playing with prestigious orchestras and ensembles such as the Halle and BBC philharmonic I joined the internationally acclaimed Swing Commanders and toured Europe and the USA for ten years as multi instrumentalist, vocalist and dancer. My string qtet, trio and duo performs regularly for corporate functions and weddings and as a soloist I have recorded with Bonner Tiler, Richard Hawley and Alex Jones along with performing in front of Prince Charles and the Queen classically. As a soloist I perform any genre and can take any request as experience ranges from folk, classical, jazz, pop, world music, Swing and many other styles. Whether it’s a violin to serenade guests as they arrive followed by a little ‘over the head jazz piano’ or accordion or moving more towards a bit of a dance and sing along I guarantee to create just the right vibe for the occasion working closely with you to accommodate special requests and styles. The best thing is that you create different sounds without having to hire different musicians.

Wow what can I say.. Gaynor was absolutely incredible, would check up on how the wedding planning was going before the big day & updated me every step of the way. This was a surprise for my wife on our wedding day. Wasn’t a dry eye even before we walked down the aisle!! Everyone loved the music choice saying it was a beautiful touch, really brought everything together!! We absolutely loved how gaynor put a personal touch on things by writing in our guest book was so extremely thoughtful (& emotionally). We both can’t thank you enough you are worth it 100x over!! Love Lucy & Amy xxx

Gaynor was absolutely amazing playing for us at our wedding. She made the wedding extra special with how beautiful she plays the violin, all the guests commented on how amazing she was and how it created such a beautiful atmosphere at the ceremony. Gaynor is also very lovely and always very quick at replying to any messages I had. Would highly recommend her to anyone 😊 thanks again!! Xx

We booked Gaynor and her accompanying pianist only about 6 weeks before our wedding, and we feel so lucky to have found her. She was incredible, both in the weeks leading up and on the day. She walked us through what she needed, what she would be playing at different times during the ceremony, and was completely flexible, allowing us to make changes to anything necessary. She also sent us a list of the medley she typically plays before the ceremony as well as a video of her playing to make sure we were happy. Some of the music we asked her to play was from a video game and was a bit obscure, but even with the short notice, they played it beautifully and just perfectly encapsulated our vision. Music is very important to me and my husband, so it was crucial that we found someone who shared that passion. Thank you Gaynor! Highly recommend.

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

It’s always an advantage to only have to book one or two musicians to provide music for the day. This keeps costs down substantially and makes life a lot easier with communication. I provide various sounds and vibes depending on what you want and need and can work closely with you to tailor the day exactly how you wish.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

Bridgewater Hall Carnegie Hall Earls Court Liverpool Philharmonic Hall Theatres across the UK and Europe Jazz and 1940’s festivals in UK, Ireland and Europe Various Texas dance halls and venues Wedding venues up and down the UK, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

Nora Jones Stevie Wonder Ella Fitzgerald Modern pop artistes Hotclub of Cowtown Nigel Kennedy

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

Glastonbury Festival.

Do you have different line-up options?

As a solo It would always be myself combining options of violin, piano, accordion and vocals. I also offer a duo which adds on saxophone and clarinet and a trio with double bass. Also a five piece swing band. In addition a string quartet, trio or duo.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

Timings can be flexible as I understand things and plans can change. As long as the day is booked in we can fine tune timings nearer the day if required.

How much time do you need to set up?

Set up takes 20 minutes if acoustic or 45 minutes if PA is needed. Depending on requirements we can normally work around the venue and events of the day.

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

I would normally play a selection of requests and my own set. I try to gauge who is listening and tailor it to the vibe at the time. Every function is different and it is often good to leave a little space to go with guest reaction. Sometimes they want to sing along, sometimes just to chat and this changes throughout the day.

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

All equipment totally self contained.

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

I can learn pretty much any song/tune/genre/style.
