I've been playing Scottish dance music on the accordion since I was 14 and running a band since about 18. For the first few years or so we played almost exclusively at enthusiast Scottish dance events but since then we've been playing at more public facing events such as ceilidhs and weddings. The band has 9 recordings to its credit, 5 broadcasts on the BBC Scottish dance music program 'Take the Floor' and we've played in 23 countries of the world. We're reasonably unusal in the fact that I play the accordion and also call the dances. We reularly play to audiences of several hundred people using this approach and to judge from our reviews it works well. It probably helps that I have a background in Highland Dancing and Country dancing myself. Our drummer Richard Furlong helps organise the sets on the floor. We play regularly at such big London venues as: The Brewery The Caledonian Club The Banqueting Suite Whitehall Hammersmith Town Hall Lansdowne Club with occasional highlights such as: The Royal Albert Hall Victoria Palace Buckingham Palace one Marleybone Place but our average event is a wedding for a mainly non Scottish audience of 100 people
