Colin Jones' 'Retro Flashback' celebrates the amazing music of the 70s, 80s and 90's with songs from Tears for Fears, Pet Shop Boys, Beautiful South, Phil Collins, Duran Duran, Culture Club, Madness, Aha and so many more. The music was diverse but these songs are famous for their warm vocals, great solos and rich orchestration .. (then there's Lip up Fatty!) With over 30 years experience touring as a professional trumpet player and keyboard player, Colin has performed in venues of all sizes and with bands of all genres, in addition to recording with many artists. The Retro Flashback show is a one man show that delivers that little extra magic - Carefully honed backing tracks are the basis of the 'band' but these are enhanced with live piano and synth for those luscious ballads and synth heavy dance tunes, as well as trumpet and an Electronic Wind Instrument which reproduces the greatest sax solos of the era. Looking for background music instead? Then book the instrumental set and create the perfect laid-back vibe for your drinks reception, presentation evening or dinner. Colin Jones stepped in at the last minute after we had been let down by another musician, We gave Colin a number of obscure music pieces, which Roy Castles used to play back in the day, Colin obviously worked very hard and was dedicated enough to study and learn these pieces of music within a small time frame. Colin was prompt, polite, personable and a fantastic trumpettier!. We will definitely be booking Colin again (he is already pencilled in for next year) and would heartily recommend his services to anyone looking for an experienced, hardworking and friendly trumpet player and personality. Colin Jones is one of the best musicians I have ever come across in all my recording experiences. From the first time he recorded trumpet for my music project Dodson and Fogg in 2013, he has always given me exactly what I have been after, repeatedly exceeding my expectations along the way. The briefs I have given him have always been general, based on vague instructions for a feel and a vibe, but somehow Colin always knows what is needed. Wedding ceremony

To play trumpet as a soloist during the wedding ceremony. Typically for the bride's entrance, during the signing of the register and as the couple leave the ceremony. This can be playing with your accompanist (usually organ/piano) or to pre-recorded accompaniments provided.

Drinks reception

To perform an instrumental set of easy listening and swing music to backing tracks. A combination of trumpet, flugelhorn and Electronic Wind Instrument (essentially a digital sax!) with professionally recorded and mixed accompaniments. Up to an hour and a half, which can be split into shorter sets if required.

What do your clients love most about your performances?

The fact that I have great fun with the music I perform.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

The vast majority of the theatres in the UK. Too many to mention - But not The Albert Hall, I'd remember that.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

As a singer Phil Collins, Tim Minchin and all the great power vocalists of the 80s. As a trumpet player - Harry Kim and Arturo Sandoval

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

I played a couple of tours with some amazing Motown artists - Chairmen of the Board and The Contours. These were amazing to be a part of.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

This is usually completely fine - often travelling long distances I put aside an entire day for your booking as a matter of course.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes - I can provide background music between sets, please discuss your requirements with me. There may be an additional charge if you require background music long after I have finished performing.

How much time do you need to set up?

An hour and a half is ideal, depending on how easy or difficult the load-in is at your venue.

If I have a piano at my venue, are you happy to perform on that?

As I sing most of the songs with backing tracks too, it is better for me to use my own stage piano. However, If you have a special request for a piano ballad - I'm happy to oblige if I can!

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

If you see a song or 2 that you would definitely like to hear then please let me know, but on the whole I like to plan sets based upon what works musically and and flows best.

Are you able to bring your own piano or keyboard?

I bring all the instruments and sound equipment that I need for your event, all I need from you is power and space.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

I am always happy to add new songs to the repertoire, provided they suit my voice and range, and are largely of the same genre as my favourites. Please ask me if you have anything in particular.
