About Bellamira

Bellamira play driving, wild music for ceilidh dancing, incorporating rock beats, tight arrangements, songs and loads of fun.
Ceilidh band
Sheffield
Public liability insurance of £10 million

Bellamira have been stomping ceilidh music since 2018 for parties, weddings and festivals, anywhere within a few hours drive of Yorkshire. We are all professional musicians with many years of ceilidhs and performances under our belts, and are adept at creating a brilliant atmosphere, taking dancers from gentle groove to intense frenzy, and generally creating a really good party. We aren’t a loose collective of musicians like some other ceilidh bands for hire, we are a polished band, with a line up of drums, fiddle, squeeze-box, guitar, vocals and caller (who explains and leads the dances). Our sound is big, joyous and colourful, partly due to the diverse range of musical backgrounds we bring to it - including English, Scottish, Irish and Eastern folk, rock and pop, electronic music, Americana, bluegrass and jazz. As well as playing music we also do our utmost to ensure that the our customer service is top notch, so the organising experience is pleasant and easy. We work with you to make your event whatever you want it to be – for example creating client-tailored song lists, or learning specific tunes or dances on request. And we love to create a visual spectacular and can bring lighting and stage dressings, as well as providing DJing, ceremonial music and sound system equipment for speeches.

We’re so glad we chose Bellamira as our wedding band! They were so helpful from start to finish, Robyn was easy to get in touch with and helped us decide what would work best for us. Needless to say, everything went very smoothly on the day. They got everyone up dancing (including lots of first-timers), with excellent music and great calling. All of our guests loved the ceilidh, and we would thoroughly recommend the band to anyone. We hope we’ll have the chance to hear them play again!

We're delighted that we booked Bellamira Ceilidh Band for our wedding. The communication and preparation was very easy, and it's clear they were committed to providing the performance we wanted. The music was brilliant, with a great energy that carried on to the dance floor.

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

We're a high energy band with tight arrangements and a great driving feel. Overall - we have the spirit!

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

We think our biggest influences are Bellowhead, Kate Bush, The Police, Peter Bellamy, Le Vent du Nord, Against Me, Leveret, Naragonia and Blowzabella.

Can you perform covers?

Yes we can play some modern covers in addition to the traditional Ceilidh music.

Do you have different line-up options?

Our line up is as follows: Fiddle and vocals Squeeze box Guitar and vocals Drums and sound engineering Caller We

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

We do our best to be flexible. If timings change just let us know and we'll accomodate it if at all possible. We're also happy to play things by ear on the night, by for example seeing how tired the guests are getting, or adapting if things are running a bit late.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Absolutely. We are totally happy to do that for free. If you'd like a DJ service via our PA after the final set until the venue closes, we can generally provide it for an additional £100.

How much time do you need to set up?

We need 1.5 hours before the gig to set up and soundcheck. The last 30 minutes of this will be soundchecking, and will involve amplified music. If everything is happening in the same room, we are happy to set up quietly by the side of the room (while people are eating or doing speeches) and then quickly soundcheck afterwards.

Do you provide a caller?

Yes. We work with several callers, depending on their availability, but we will only work with ones who are really good - fun, good at explaining the dances and great at enthusing and working the room. If you don't want a caller, or want to employ your own, that's okay, just let us know.

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

We have crafted a good programme based on what works for building up the energy levels, and making sure that everyone has a great time. But if there are any specfic things you want, do ask for them and we'll make sure they are in.

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA) included in your quote?

Yes. We bring and operate our own PA system, and can bring lighting if you want it. As far as space goes, to a great extent we can adapt to the space available, but do bear in mind that we have a drum kit and so we need space to set it up!

Can you learn song requests before the event?

We are happy to learn a specific song beforehand if you give us adequate time to do so.
