Angela Lawrence

I have studied Music at University and then postgraduate at Music College and at the National Centre for Orchestral Studies at Goldsmiths. I have worked as a professional violinist under the baton of, for example, Sir Richard Hickox, Sir Colin Davis, Vernon Handley, Esa Pekka Salonen, Susanna Malkki and many more renowned conductors as well as soloists. I was a full time violinist in the Joensuu City Symphony Orchestra in Finland from 1984-2003, which included playing in small chamber ensembles as well as the synphony orchestra, and have played with many groups and orchestras, workshop groups and other endeavours in classical, baroque, opera, shows and occasionally as a recording artist for both classical and popular music records. I have also played in the Hoxton and the Almeida contemporary music festivals in London with members of the London Sinfonietta and composer Peter Weigold, and have worked with youth and music groups for the Society for the Promotion of New Music. I currently live in South west Scotland and work mainly visual artist, maintaining my musical interests in various groups and the regional symphony orchestra, as well as some music teaching, and enjoy working freelance in various gigs mainly in this area, northern England and London.
