Formed in 2016, the Tri Tones jazz trio love to perform the sort of jazz you love to listen to. Everything from the early days, blues and standards through to pieces our own members write today, along with fun takes on TV/film music too. Some of our favourite composers: Duke Ellington, Keith Jarrett, Miles Davis, Errol Garner, Billy Strayhorn, Neil Hefti, Antonio Jobim, Richard Rodgers, Irving Berlin, Vernon Duke, George Gershwin, Jerome Kern, Gerald Marks, Randy Newman, Cole Porter, Sonny Rollins, Kurt Weill. We're professional, flexible and love what we do. We play swing, latin, bossa, ballads, showtunes, music from TV shows, films and video games. We have two line ups: Piano, double bass, trumpet/sax/percussion (this our "normal" line up) Banjo, sousaphone, trumpet/sax/percussion (this is more of a "trad jazz" feel) Both line ups can operate outside, power supply preferred but we can operate of batteries if needed. (The "trad jazz" line up can operate as standing/walkabout.)

Very common in the feedback we get from clients is our professionalism, high musical standards and friendly nature at gigs. We love playing our music and want to share that with your guests are your event. We always turn up early to make sure we're set up in time to keep your event on track.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

We've performed all over the UK, at luxury hotels, city centre bars, restaurants, cafes, cinemas, theatre and concert hall foyers. Our member have performed all over Europe, including several radio and TV performances, and major concert halls such as The Royal Albert Hall and Liverpool Philharmonic Hall.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

Our favourite jazz composers include: Keith Jarrett Duke Ellington Johnny Hodges Charlie Parker Miles Davis Billy Strayhorn Bart Howard Antonio Jobim Rodgers and Hart Jerome Kern Irving Berlin

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

Making sure the music on someone's wedding day is some of the highest pressured stuff you'll do as a musician, as you want it to be absolutely spot on for their special day. As individuals we've performed around the world: one of us is first-class chorister for Lichfield Cathedral, two of us have performed multiple times for Queen Elizabeth.

Do you have different line-up options?

Our "classic" line-up is: piano, double bass, and trumpet/saxophone/percussion. (Three players) Our "trad" line-up is: banjo, sousaphone, trumpet/saxophone/percussion. (Three players)

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

We always try our best to be flexible to help ensure your event runs as smoothly as possible. If timings change slightly in the run up to the event just let us know.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Absolutely. This is a really popular request and we actually offer this service for free. If you'd like a the facility to plug in an iPod via our PA after the final set, we provide this starting at an additional £100.

How much time do you need to set up?

We usually set up about 1 to 1.5 hours before the performance time. We can do it in as little as 20 minutes if needed, but much prefer to have everything sorted well before we are due to start!

Can you roam around while you perform?

With sousaphone/banjo/trumpet combo, we can roam freely. With piano/double bass/trumpet combo, we can't roam freely, but we are able to be in various outside locations as we have battery packs that our digital piano can run from.

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

We love it when our audiences help to pick our set lists for us! We have printed lists available for people to browse and select from. Equally, we are happy to use our experience from countless performances and learning what works best to ensure people have an amazing time.

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA & lighting) included in your quote?

We normally perform acoustically, with speakers for bass and digital piano only as required (depending on the venue). We can provide a PA with a microphone if you would like.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

If a song isn't included in our song list there may still be a chance we already know it. If there is a special song you'd like us to learn we are happy to do this for you. There is a fee of £50 for this service to take into account rehearsal times etc.

The Tri Tones played at our family party last week and were absolutely great. The age range of our guests was from 1 - 90+ and, without exception, everyone loved the music. The band arrived in good time, were cheerful, flexible and played beautifully. I would highly recommend them. Apart from sharp renditions of traditional favourites, they had taken the time to learn a Springsteen classic (requested) - which was fantastic. Our party was in a church hall with doors open on to a garden - people commented how well the band modulated their performance so that it was always significant but never too loud. Thanks Tri Tones - we will definitely be in touch for the next big event!
