Laura Kox is a UK and Germany based musician who has recently finished her postgraduate studies (MMus Performance) at Leeds College of Music. She is the General Manger of Arts@Trinity and the Musical Director of the Arts@Trinity Flute Choir. She also works as a freelance music teacher. Born and educated in Germany, Laura began her musical education in early childhood starting with the recorder. She went on to learn the piano with private teachers and then took up the flute at the Bernd Alois Zimmerman Musikschule in Erftstadt in 2002. There, she not only enjoyed her one-on-one lessons with Kaja Jungbluth, but also joined the woodwind ensemble H.O.L.Z directed by Ulrike Warnecke, a flute trio and various other projects and concert tours. She decided to make music her profession and completed her Bachelor of Arts in Music Education Classical Flute degree in 2013 at the University of Applied Sciences Osnabrück. During her time in Osnabrück, she also kept up her chamber music work, playing in various combinations including 2-8 flutes; flute and guitar; flute, viola and guitar; wind quintet and also symphonic orchestras. Her teachers included Gudrun Ravens-Speckert, Nicole Goedereis-Buller and Gary Woolf. After finishing her Bachelor’s degree, Laura decided to go on studying in her other home country, England, and do a Master’s course in performance. During this time she enjoyed lessons with Karin de Fleyt, Carla Rees and Martyn Shaw and focused on learning to play not only the Concert Flute, but also the Piccolo, the Alto and the Bass Flute. Laura enjoyed taking part in summer schools and master classes with Clare Southworth, Ian Clarke, Carla Rees, Heike Malz, Peter Verhoyen and Gary Woolf. She has been teaching flute for the past 6 years on a one-on-one basis and in groups. Laura has directed various big ensembles of all abilities and age ranges. She also has experience in teaching piano and music theory. Laura is extremely enthusiastic about passing on her passion for music to others, helping them to enjoy the fun of making music as much as she does.
