Hi I’m Chris! - Available for formal dinners, drink receptions, private parties, corporate functions, student events and May Balls; - Solo act as pianist, keyboardist and cellist. I improvise, often take song requests and accompany guests who would like to sing; - I like to bring friends into live sets; I run a successful modern string quartet (we arrange all our own music), an acoustic pop busking band, and am part of various rock-pop, jazz and world music initiatives; - Fitting this round being a junior doctor; I do this to support the bills, but also always down for a good time; - Lots of performance and depping experience as pianist, cellist, bassist, melodica & percussion in classical, live and spontaneous settings; - Always down for charity performances and care homes! - Classically trained with an LTCL in piano, ATCL in cello, Grade 8 in voice. Composer and MD for multiple theatre productions. Ex-Conductor for CUCOS; - Have a lot of equipment, but I do not drive. ---BIOGRAPHY--- Christopher is a multi-instrumentalist, improviser, arranger, composer and conductor, currently based in Cambridgeshire where he is a medical student at the University of Cambridge. Here, he is is excited to have co-found the Pegasus String Quartet, and Nigel, a functional four-part band. He is also delighted to be this year's conductor for CUCOS, an orchestra of the University of Cambridge. He held a Choral Scholarship at Robinson College, where he co-wrote a choral piece, premiered by the College Chapel Choir in 2019. Music has long been a large part in Christopher’s life. Christopher currently holds an LTCL in piano performance and an ATCL in cello performance, and plays with the Hong Kong Chordophonia. Within the last few years, Christopher has directed multiple instrumental, vocal and theatrical ensembles, written an album of original piano music, and performed as a chamber, choral and orchestral member around Italy, Portugal, Canada, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and Hong Kong, where he resides outside of term time. Christopher now enjoys performing at formal dinners, drink receptions, private parties, corporate functions and May Balls as a solo pianist, or as part of a string quartet. Common requests range from simply being the background and setting a certain mood, to taking and delivering live song requests. More creative requests include wedding proposals and flash mobs. Both offer a large versatile repertoire across multiple genres. Towards this end, Christopher is also an experienced arranger and would be delighted to transcribe and arrange any song or piece you have in mind. A list of example songs can be found below. Do get in touch to ask about availability and pricing. Christopher is available to fill in as a keys player for your band, a cellist for your ensemble, a bass/baritone singer for your choir, or a percussionist. Do get in touch to ask about availability and pricing. Christopher also enjoys busking, and contributing to charity concerts, charity music projects and good causes via musical comedy. Regarding Chinese Music, Christopher’s experience with it started at age 11 as a Gehu player in the highly-acclaimed La Salle College Chinese Orchestra and Hong Kong Junior & Youth Chinese Classical Orchestra, under the leadership of composer and conductor Maestro Ng Chiu Shing, who acted as a great mentor and inspiration over the years. He now conducts the Cambridge University Chinese Orchestra and will be able to arrange particular ensembles for particular events as required. Christopher is fortunate to have learned under pianists Mr David Wang, Ms Marie-Laure Müller & Dr Nicholas Salwey; cellists Mr An Yue, Mr Artem Konstantinov & Mr Lionel Handy; of singers Mr David Quah, Mr Simon Birchall & Mr Neil McKenzie; and of composers Miss Poly Ng and Mr Oliver Tarney. Other mentors include Mr Nicholas Wilks, Mr David Thomas, Mr Adrian Adlam, Mr Malcolm Archer and Mr Jamal Sutton.

Christopher performed an hour long set at the Cambridge Pink Week Ball 2019, and I could not have been happier with his performance. Within minutes he had garnered an audience that more than filled the Drawing Room, with guests visibly bringing their friends over to enjoy the show. The performance itself was executed fabulously; in addition, Christopher delivered stage presence and engagement with the audience that went far beyond what I had expected from a student keyboardist act. I could see that he brought exactly the kind of fun feel to the Ball that we were looking for. He was very professional, responding quickly to my emails and requests which made my job much easier. Following rave reviews from guests and committee members alike, Pink Week Ball would be happy to have Christopher perform for us again next year! - Sara Rasul, Head of Entertainment, Cambridge Pink Week Ball 2019

Customer questions

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

I try my best to be flexible to help ensure your event runs as smoothly as possible. If timings change slightly in the run up to the event just let us know as soon as you can, and I will see what I can do. Bear in mind, however, that I am a student and there may be times which I just cannot do.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Let me know if you require this service and I will be able to provide it for free.

How much time do you need to set up?

If there's a piano, I can get to work right away!

If I have a piano at my venue, are you happy to perform on that?

Yes, of course - as long as the piano is in working order and vaguely in tune, then I'd be delighted to play on it!

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

You can, in fact, suggest any list of songs that you would like played. The set list acts as a guidance to the tunes that I can recognise and play.

Are you able to bring your own piano or keyboard?

Yes, I will be able to bring a keyboard for an extra fee or transport costs. However, a piano at your venue is always preferred over a keyboard for acoustic reasons. It's just not the same.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

Absolutely. If I've heard it, chances are I can play it. But get in touch to make sure.

What do your clients love most about your performances?

Different clients ask for different things, and I try to deliver them to the best of my ability. Most enjoy the spontaneity and the creative blending of different music from one to another, as well as the sensitivity to the state of the audience. Read the reviews below to get a better idea!

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

I have extensive experience playing for wedding receptions in Hong Kong, as well as May Balls, formal dinners and private functions in the UK, of varying levels of formality.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

This one's difficult to say. It changes all the time!

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

Since being at Cambridge, I've had the privilege to play for a lot of May Balls, June Events and Garden Parties, including St John's May Ball, which is dubbed the 7th Best Party in the World.
