About Artie

Acoustic singer-songwriter and London Eye busker. I can bring a well-travelled, soulful and skilled presence to your event!
Singer
London
Public liability insurance of £10 million

I have 20+ years playing instruments and perform for a living, working consistently in music, theatre, and live performance. I've sung in Paris, on the Isles of Scilly, at The Hard Rock Cafe and at the last ever Nozstock Festival. I release music as 'King Uther's Sons' and have been featured on Blues and Roots Radio. I was personally hired by fashion designer, Jeff Garner, to accompany the premiere of their award-winning film, 'Let Them Be Naked'. Upon moving to London in 2023, I was one of the few select performers to be awarded a busking licence through audition with the Southbank Centre, the UK's largest arts centre. This allows me to perform daily to thousands of visitors by the London Eye. My first instrument was the 'Cello (Grade 8 ABRSM) which I began learning when I was 7 or 8 years old. I played in classical orchestras for many years and learnt musical theory (Grade 5 ABRSM). I was taught to sing at a young age by a choral director from the Hereford Cathedral, and spent years in choirs, bands and musical theatre. I began teaching myself guitar as a teenager and have busked regularly in the cities I've visited since then. I have since gone on to teach myself Banjo, Bass Guitar, Ukulele, and Harmonica. I now also teach acoustic guitar to students in London and online. Because of this mixture of skills, I am often employed for my musical ability in the theatre jobs I pursue. I have toured my own shows across the UK and performed in many different settings, from the street to the largest theatres in the country. I have a degree in Theatre and Performance Studies from the University of Bristol, and have an excellent understanding of how events and performances are designed, created and managed. I bring this mindset when curating a musical set for your events, acutely aware of the amount of work that goes into making sure your guests are happy, and everything is ‘just right’. This aside, my main focus in playing at your event is to bring soul, skill, and passion. What the Spanish call, "El Duende". For those special days we want to remember and feel - music is often the key.

I cannot recommend Artie enough! He entertained everyone with his superb skill set. He sang his heart out and played not only to the crowd but for and with them. All my wedding guests raved about how good he was - everyone joined in and got dancing. He made our day truly memorable - No-one will be able to hear 'Country road' without a heartfelt grin ever again. Thank you again Artie - our special day wouldn't have been the same without you!

King Uther's Sons helped with a support set. He was highly professional with a good set of songs complimenting both the atmosphere and clientele of the venue. An act worth looking out for on the circuit.

Artie played at one of our markets in Horsham and really brought the market to life! The customers loved his varied set and we had such glowing feedback that we've booked Artie again this year. We look forward to welcoming him back for more live music in May.

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

Recent clients have said: "His enthusiasm, confidence, charm and musical ability made him a very popular act with the crowd."

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

Having worked as an actor and musician for a decade, I have performed at dozens of venues across the UK and Europe including: Bristol Old Vic Plymouth Theatre Royal Birmingham Town Hall Lyric Theatre Belfast Edinburgh Festival Theatre Liverpool Everyman Isles of Scilly Food Festival Café du Depart (near Paris, France) Almazen Theatre (Barcelona, Spain)

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

If you haven't watched the film 'Once', I highly recommed you do. It's an irish film featuring Glen Hansard and Marketa Iglova of Swell Season, and it inspired me to pursue a career as a musician. I am inspired by acoustic musicians mostly, such as Damien Rice, Newton Faulkner, Frank Turner, Nick Drake, John Martyn, Neil Young and of course, Bob Dylan.

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

As a musician, most recently, entertaining guests on the Isles of Scilly for the Food Festival in 2021. Around 200 people arrived on boats from different islands and listened to me play on a sunny September afternoon. As an actor - performing at Bristol Old Vic stands out, as does Birmingham Town Hall.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

When planning an event like a wedding or concert, there is always the chance timings will move around. I generally try to keep the whole day free for bookings so should be flexible if things move around. If you need to change the day as we get closer to the event we can discuss options.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Of course! I'm happy to help keep the party going after the live music has come to an end. I can provide use of my speaker and Spotify premium to play music for your guests at their request. (£50 an hour after live music / free in 30 minute break between sets)

How much time do you need to set up?

This can depend on if I am playing completely acoustically or with a speaker - normally this takes less than 30 minutes. Happy to discuss your timings and where I can slot in!

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

Yes of course - this is actually very helpful! I often meet with clients to get a sense of who they are and how this can be represented with the music I play.

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

Yes - I bring my acoustic guitar with me nearly everywhere! I have a PA speaker available and microphone/microphone stands for louder sets.

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

I am happy to try out any song your interested in to see if it works well in my style, and often send a video or recording to clients to see if they like the sound of it! Visit my 'extras' page for more info!
