William Curran studied at Queen’s University Belfast before completing his postgraduate studies with distinction at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester. He has attended masterclasses across Europe, including several with Yehuda Gilad.
Since graduating he has embarked on a varied freelance career encompassing orchestral, solo and chamber music. He has performed across the UK and Europe in venues including the Wigmore Hall, London, Slovack Radio Hall, Bratislava and the Ulster Hall, Belfast.
A current recipient of a Belfast City Council ‘Creative Practitioners Bursary’, he is a previous Young Musicians Platform Award holder from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and BBC NI for 2019/2020.
He has worked with leading ensembles and companies as a guest player, including the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and Northern Ireland Opera. Now based in County Down, he works regularly as a guest with the Ulster Orchestra.
Solo highlights include engagements with the Ulster Orchestra and the Ulster Youth Orchestra, as well as broadcasts for BBC Radio 3’s ‘In Tune’, BBC Radio Ulster and BBC 2 NI.
A keen chamber musician, and supporter of new music, William also works as a guest with Hard Rain SoloistEnsemble, with whom he was previously a ‘Young Artist’. He was invited to perform at the 2021 Clandeboye Festival, as well as the 2021 Belfast Music Society Festival of Chamber Music.
