Cellist
London

A busy freelance musician based in London, William is the current holder of the Rose Roitman Award Scholarship, and previously the Eric Thiman Memorial Award scholarship at the Royal Academy of Music, where he is studying with Professor Felix Schmidt. Will regularly performs and tours with many different orchestras and chamber ensembles whilst maintaining an exciting solo career with regular concerto performances around the UK. Recent highlights in the past year include multiple performances of both the Dvorak and Elgar Cello Concertos including performances with the King's Chamber Orchestra, the Sidcup Symphony Orchestra and the Huddersfield Philharmonic Orchestra. He enjoys his the diversity of his orchestral work, of which some highlights include the recording of the Australian tribute band Aussie-Floyd's latest album at Abbey Road Studios, some Sondheim shows: Into The Woods and A Little Night Music, and returning to the Aberystwyth Music Festival as part of the Aberystwyth Festival Chamber Ensemble to perform works by Martinu and Britten. Beginning music lessons aged four, Will became proficient on a range of instruments before deciding to specialise in the cello when moving to Chetham's School of Music, Manchester, aged sixteen, where he studied with Head of Strings, Nicholas Jones. His Chets career was rich with performance opportunities, appearing at the Royal Northern College of Music for masterclasses and quartet performances, and other venues including the Manchester Cathedral, where he gave performances of the Saint-Saens and Lalo Concertos. Will currently plays on an early 19th Century Thomas Kennedy Cello, loaned to him by the Royal Academy of Music for the duration of his studies.

His lyrical, expressive playing communicated eloquently with the appreciative audience... the music fully inhabited and played with complete mastery.

Having rehearsed and performed alongside Will in the cello section of a London Young Sinfonia concert, I have the utmost respect for his playing and ability to lead a section. A true professional.
