Vintage jazz band
Farnborough
Public liability insurance of £10 million

Matthew Quilliam’s Vintage Classics offers an exciting and eclectic range of musical acts fit for vintage events and venues. Featuring highly trained and experienced musicians, transport your guests back to the jazz era for an unforgettable toe-tapping experience. All of our acts can also sprinkle in a large portion of pop songs in a jazzy style, providing that vintage feeling but with a modern twist. This is especially popular for themed weddings and parties, allowing your guests to sing-along with their favourite tunes. Acts: GEORGE FORMBY Matthew Quilliam plays the hits of Britian’s favourite ukulele player. Blending an authentic look and wit with his own trademark style, you can be sure that everything will ‘turn out nice again!’ SONGS FROM THE STARS Take a trip down memory lane for a packed show of classic songs by the greatest stars of yesteryear, from Frank Sinatra to Vera Lynn. Matthew can perform as a solo ‘crooner’ or with his trusty uke. THE RAGTIME RASCALS Matthew performs with his old-time jazz band, swinging their way back to the 1910s – 40s. Relive the jazz age with non-stop toe-tappers, featuring a line-up of 2 or 3 musicians, like banjo, sax and trombone. About: This classic tribute to the timeless songs of yesteryear is the perfect accompaniment to any vintage events such as fayers, heritage railways, museums and WWII societies such as at Didcot Railway Centre, Mizens Railway and On-Parade Enthusiasts Group. Founder and leader Matthew Quilliam, along with his hand-picked selection of fellow musicians, are all highly trained and experienced in playing and singing the music of the 1910s – 1940s, including the music of Frank Sinatra, George Formby, Vera Lynn, Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller, Glenn Miller, Louis Prima, Bill Hailey, Jackie Wilson and many more from early jazz, dixieland, big band and swing. The set-list will be customised to the specific time era that your event captures. With a compact and flexible set up, the musicians can squeeze into the tightest of corners, or roam freely around the venue or train carriages.

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

Audiences and guests love our creativity with our arrangements, combined with our energetic floor-filling rhythms. As for those who have booked us, we pride ourselves on providing an easy, efficient and flexible service.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

As well as a plethra of private venues and parties, we've loved performing at Didcot Railway Centre, Mizens Railway, for On-Parade re-enactment group and Fleet Memorial Service.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

All the greats from the 1910s-40s, like George Formby, Glenn Miller, Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, and more! We love to play modern music too in a vintage style too, from Robbie Williams to Disney and from Kate Bush to Katy Perry.

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

Swindon Oktoberfest 2018, where we were called on at short notice to play to 2000+ people!

Do you have different line-up options?

Yes! Vintage Classics is proud to present three different acts. Founder Matthew Quilliam presents his George Formby tribute act as a soloist or with piano accompaniment, whereas the Ragtime Rascals is a 2 or 3 piece swing band with instruments such as banjo, sax, clarinet, trombone or bass. Specific instruments can be requested, subject to availability.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

We always try out best to accommodate changes, though this is not always possible. Please remember that the more notice you can give us, the more likely we are going to be able to help!

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

We can provide music from a playlist of our favourite vintage tunes up to 15 minutes before and after the first and last set, as well as for the duration of our break(s). Please ask if you require any longer as an additional charge may apply.

How much time do you need to set up?

We will need at least an hour or two before the event in order to give us plenty of time to get ready. Our pack down is usually quicker. If we can, we will be set up before your guests arrive.

Can you roam around while you perform?

Short answer - yes! Slightly longer answer... Some venues are easier than others. If we are roaming around one room, we can use wireless microphones so that we can be heard no matter where we are. If we are travelling across a wider space or through a train, we prefer to go acoustically, meaning we'll only be heard in one area at a time.

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

Please do! We can play more songs than we can list here, so please ask if you have a request as it may be that we can already do it.

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA & lighting) included in your quote?

Yes, as is our set-up time. The only additional charges that may apply in relation to our equipment is if you require us to set up a long time before the quests arrive. A longer waiting period may incur an additional cost.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

If we don't currently perform your favourite song, an additional £35 will incur for each song, with a minimum notice period of 30 days in which to learn the song.
