We are Tuxedo Swing; a semi-professional big band, based in the East Midlands, comprised of current and past members of Loughborough University. We play weddings, pubs, functions, balls, awards nights, and many other public and private events. You name it, we've probably played it! Most of our performances are in the East Midlands, but we've played as far away as Belfast and for the likes of BBC Children In Need. Made up of passionate musicians, we play a wide range of music from well known Big Band Swing and Jazz classics like Sinatra and Duke Ellington, to livelier, more modern styles including funk, latin, soul, disco and RnB. We offer both a big band for main event-type performances and a small band for more intimate events too. Our big band features saxophones, trumpets, clarinets, trombones, and a full rhythm-section along with male and female vocalists. A selection of these perform with the small band, with the option to be instrumental only. We're very happy to be flexible with timings, location, music, or anything else to make sure your event runs as smoothly as possible. Visited for the Tuxedo Swing event in February. A great venue with good cocktails and fantastic happy hour drinks deals. The interior of the bar is very nice, which adds to the intimate and cosy vibe. The live band were fantastic, which definitely made for a really good evening out in Loughborough. We'll be keeping an eye out on upcoming events!

I visited Loughborough this year for their event Union Jazz 2024, and I was blown away! Can’t wait to see what they do next year!

Customer questions

Will the singer be the same as who I see in the videos?

We have a group of singers of a consistently high standard, who each tend to spend around 3 years in the band. Our videos are fairly up to date, so there's a good chance that at least some of the singers in them will be performing for you. This will depend on their availability, as we don't always bring all of our singers to every gig.

Do you have different line-up options?

We often perform in one of two line-ups: The Big Band - A 16+ piece big band, made for a main event-type performance. The Small Band - A 4-10 piece jazz combo, suited best to background music or a smaller venue. We can also perform with a band size between these, for a mixture of the two, if it's what suits your needs best.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

If timings change slightly in the run up to the event, just let us know and we will do our best to ensure we can adjust accordingly. We're very happy to be flexible with whatever needs you may have.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

This is absolutely fine with us and we will offer music between our sets for free. However, if you’d like additional music after our final set, we will provide this at an additional cost.

How much time do you need to set up?

We usually set up about an hour before the performance time. If it helps with the logistics your event, we're more than happy to set up earlier than that.

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

What we often find works best is for our Musical Director to create a set list based off your event's requirements, then you can either trust us to surprise you or we'd be very happy to share it with you in advance, and tailor it to your needs/requests. We can't stretch our repertoire too much, but we do play more than what's in our ever-evolving 'songlist'.

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA & lighting) included in your quote?

We provide all sound equipment as part of our quote, but we don't bring lighting (as it often isn't needed). All we require is a safe power source within 10m of the performing area.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

If a song isn’t in our repertoire, we are often happy to arrange and learn it, given enough time. There is often a fee for this service to take into account arrangement time/purchase, however.
