At a celebration of David Bowie’s life in 2016, avant-garde dance act ‘Bombay Monkey’ (bbe records) performed a version of ‘Fashion’ at the TW Forum. As the evening became an annual event, so Bombay Monkey returned with special guests on bass and guitar and performed versions of two more Bowie tracks every year. These were so well received that they were asked to play complete Bowie sets and so the ‘Leper Messiahs’, a standout, stand-alone act was born. The 'Messiahs are all big fans of David Bowie’s and created what many believe to be the grooviest David Bowie Tribute band in the world. We do not look or dress like Bowie and will not attempt to reproduce exact copies of Bowie’s live shows (how could anyone do anything but fail at this?) but this ‘un-tribute act’ perform outstanding beat-laden, versions of classic tracks from Space Oddity onwards.

Customer questions

Do you have different line-up options?

We're essentially a 4 piece band using dance beats instead of live drums but we can rock up with a drummer too (POA).

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

We always try our best to be flexible and to help ensure your event runs as smoothly as possible. Give us as much notice as you can of any changes.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Absolutely. We're happy to run playlists from itunes or spotify (if there's wifi) and we're happy to play your playlists through the PA. If you want things to keep building after (or before our set) we regularly work with the one of the best disco, soul and funk DJs in the UK (extra £250)

How much time do you need to set up?

If you are sourcing the PA we only need 45 minutes to get set up. If we're bringing the PA, we'll need 60 - 90 minutes. As soon as we're set up and sound checked, we can help set the atmosphere with an iTunes playlist.

Can you roam around while you perform?

Yes - within limits.

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

Provided we know them (and we know a more than a few) you can pick out Bowie tracks for each set.

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA & lighting) included in your quote?

No, the PA isn't included though we are happy to give you a quote to bring one along (rate dependant on size of venue and location).

Can you learn song requests before the event?

Depends on how many words. And notes. ;)

What do your clients love most about your performances?

People usually comment on the singer and the arrangements.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

Break for the Border (London), Liverpool Empire, Glastonbury, The Forum (Tunbridge Wells), The Rooks Nest, St Johns Yard,

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

Errr, David Bowie, Robert Fripp, Tony Visconti, Mark Ronson...

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

David Bowie birthday party gigs at The Forum.

Thank you for last night, everyone loved the set – not least of all my husband who’s been a Bowie fan for many years. Especially loved Moonage Daydream!

The Leper Messiahs played at our summer “festival”. They are fabulous. Very professional. Great sound. Took us all back to our Bowie dance years…..he could have been on the stage!! Will definitely book again. Highly recommend.
