Initially formed as mandolin and guitar duo in 2016 , Swing Train 42 quickly moved onto a trio setting aiming to articulate the sound of Hot Club De France at its best! Regularly playing on the London scene as well as for private events, Swing Train 42 is recreating the acoustic sound of gypsy and swing music with the unusual combination of mandolin, guitar and double bass. Whether you are looking for a bit of a background music or some upbeat swinging grooves for your parties or special occasions, you will find us an unusual little treat! We can offer you our music as a trio, including also a singer and all the way up to a quintet, with our recently formed Quintet 42! These guys were an absolute pleasure. Andrea was really prompt with all communication since initial enquiry right through to the day of our wedding. They provided the perfect soundtrack to the afternoon. Every so often I took a little moment to take a step back and look around the garden at all my friends and family having a lovely time, and with the beautiful playing wafting through the garden... it was perfect!

What do your clients love most about your performances?

We are a trio of happy and smiley musicians that love performing their music! Our clients love our friendliness, professionally and enthusiasm that we put into every single performance!

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

We play and have played in many of the London circuit of pubs, small venues, events. Individually we are musicians that have performed at Southbank Centre, Ronnie Scott, Green Note, Bull's Head, Savoy Hotel, Stafford Hotel London, Bears Club Luton, Zedel, and many more!

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

Django Reinhardt! The master of gyspy jazz & swing! And many more other artist from the great jazz era.

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

We treat every performance as the most high profile gig! We have played at castles, private houses, cinema events, outdoor markets, foodie spots - you name it, we did it and loved it! So it's difficult to pin down one event, even though maybe the highest event up to date as been the 25th Anniversary of Eurostar at The Savoy Ballroom!

Do you have different line-up options?

Our main line-up is the Classic Trio mandolin/guitar/doublebass (or 2 guitars, doublebass) We can also perform as duo (mandolin/guitar or 2 guitars), or quartet including either a vocalist or a 2nd guitar.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

We always try our best to be flexible to help ensure your event runs as smoothly as possible. If timings change slightly in the run up to the event, just let us know and we can accommodate.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

At the moment we don't provide iPod/DJ service, but we will be happy to help you finding a suitable iPod playlist if needed!

How much time do you need to set up?

Our set-up takes 30 mins, where we unload, set-up our equipment and do a soundcheck.

Can you roam around while you perform?

Yes - we would slightly change our setup using a regular acoustic guitar but apart for this we could arrange for this option.

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

Usually our setlist are fine-tuned to specific events considering our experience from our past performances, however we would be definitely happy to discuss specific choices of songs to be included in advance.

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA & lighting) included in your quote?

Our quote includes our instrumentation and amplification. We don't provide a PA and lighting system at the moment.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

We are happy to discuss in advance any specific song you might want us to perform, however we reserve the right to suggest other options, as some songs might not be suitable to the style of our sets and music. Depending on the complexity of the songs we might also apply a small extra fee to take into account the rehearsal time needed for the song.
