I have had the fortune of having Sophie play for me for a number of musical Theatre productions, and she always delivers with conviction and sensitivity to the material. She always ensures that even the the most unique of sounds are achieved authentically, and often goes the extra mile to ensure that all sounds are covered. As a pit percussionist, this at times can be challenging, as composers and arrangers frequently require weird and wonderful sounds to add colour to their score. Sophie always delivers, doing so with passion and enthusiasm, and is always a joy to work with. I recently had the opportunity to watch Sophie play for a production of ‘Songs for a New World’ in Liverpool and I got to witness first hand how strong a player, and ensemble musician she is. Not only was I there as a paying audience member, rather than a player/MD, but the band (small but mighty) was on the stage. I could see the huge setup that the part demanded, and as the show progressed I continued to be impressed with how Sophie worked her performance area, giving absolute commitment from the loud timpani rolls and cymbal crashes, to the soft and delicate twinkling of the glockenspiel and mark tree. What comes across more than anything is Sophie’s passion and enthusiasm for what she does, and the absolute joy she gets as expertly manoeuvres between instruments without missing any cues. She is clearly at her happiest performing, and this is why I hope to work with her again very soon.

A joyous yet peculiar insight into the complex and extraordinary life of Nico. The gifted performers crafted and manipulated the sound of suppression, success and spirituality. Particular highlights included the dynamism when showcasing the vulnerabilities and failures life can create.
