Sonore String Quartet is an award winning quartet formed of a highly experienced group of players – we have over 100 years of professional music making between us. The musicians in Sonore String Quartet play together in orchestral concerts, theatre, operas and other chamber music ensembles as well as performing as the Sonore String Quartet. We always endeavour to use the same core group of players so that the Sonore ‘sound’ is consistent. As well as being colleagues, we are also great friends and this shows in the enjoyment and energy we have in our playing. We pride ourselves on providing a personal service to each of our clients, responding to any queries you may have promptly and efficiently, working with you to create the perfect soundtrack to your event. We are highly skilled at ‘reading’ our audiences and can adapt to this with the pieces we play for you. We carry a huge range of music with us and can usually respond to ‘ad hoc’ requests from your guests. Many other event professionals comment on the depth and quality of our sound and the range of styles we perform in. Please see our reviews for positive client feedback in all aspects. We are available as a quartet, trio and duo depending on your budget and the performance space available. In recent months, Sonore have played in many prestigious venues including Windsor Castle, Blenheim Palace, The Bath Assembly Rooms, Leeds Castle, Kirtlington Park House, Fenton House, Farnham Castle, Tattershall Castle, The Vineyard, Newbury and at the Institute of Directors on Pall Mall. Members of the quartet have also performed in prestigious venues in the UK such as the Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, St. David’s Hall. Many of our arrangements (and we have over 600!) are done by our players and are thus unique to Sonore - a bespoke arrangement can be done should we not already have a piece you would like. Sonore has a wide-ranging repertoire and we are equally at home playing everything from well-known classics to current RnB and rock and pop music. We believe that every event and occasion is both individual and special and we take pride in working with you to create the perfect musical atmosphere for your civil or church wedding ceremony, drinks reception, dinner party or any other occasion you may be hosting. Prior to forming Sonore String Quartet, individual players have worked with well-known conductors such as Sir Neville Marriner, Sir Yehudi Menuhin, Sir Alexander Gibson, Owain Arwel-Hughes, Elgar Howarth, Arthur Davidson to name but a few, and also with the Bochmann and Chilingirian Quartets. Members of the quartet have studied with teachers from the Guildhall School of Music and Trinity College of Music and have played in countless orchestras and ensembles including the Royal Scottish National, BBC Concert Orchestra, BBC Radio Orchestra and the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. On rare occasions, it may be necessary to change the personnel within the quartet. If this occurs, we will use a trusted colleague to ensure your enjoyment of our music making is not altered in any way. Whatever your occasion, we can help make your event really special and memorable.

Customer questions

Do you have different line-up options?

We are able to provide a quartet (two violins, viola, cello); trio (violin, viola, cello) and duo (violin, cello) to suit a wide variety of occasions, spaces and budgets. The vast majority of our arrangements have been done by our own players, so we can ensure that your favourite piece can be arranged for the combination you would like where possible.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

This is not usually a problem, but please let us know as soon as you are aware.

How much time do you need to set up?

We would usually set up about 30 minutes before you want us to start playing.

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

You are more than welcome to choose specific pieces from our repertoire list or you can identify genres or artists you would like us to include. We are more than happy to advise you on suitable music.

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

Yes - we will bring our own instruments and music stands. The only thing we need are armless chairs (kitchen or dining style).

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

Yes. We would be able to arrange up to two songs of your choice if we don’t have them in our collection, subject to them being appropriate for a string quartet and being able to access the sheet music. This would be included in our fee, provided that we have time to work on the arrangements.

What do your clients love most about your performances?

Our clients have said that they really love the range of music we play, the quality of our sound, the fact that we go out of our way to accommodate their requests and our helpfulness prior to events.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

Amazing! It was so lovely to work with Kathryn and the group to create a beautiful bit of music for our wedding. They were so helpful and accomodating and went above and beyond to obtain sheet music and learn new pieces for us. Could not have been happier with them and the beautiful music they played for us. Wish I could have them all over again with time to just sit and listen to it all! Very grateful to have had them be part of the day.

We employed the services of Sonore String Quartet for our intimate Civil Wedding service on the 14th Sept at The George Hotel, Stamford, where they played for the service and after in the garden. Beforehand Kathryn corresponded brilliantly. Their presence and performance helped to make one very special day. Thank you so much, Sarah & Floyd

Sonore strings were one of the biggest highlights of our wedding. Communication leading up to the event were always immediate. They were able to put together special requests and most importantly played absolutely perfectly on the day. So much so it made the bride (me) cry and we received several comments from our friends and family that the strings made the ceremony so special. The guys were so flexible before and during the day, a dream to work with. Very highly recommend!!

Krys D, 10 months ago

They're very versatile across just about any musical genre and are also lovely people who are patient and nice to deal with. They played at my 65th birthday celebration and guests told me afterwards that some of them really enjoyed playing 'name that tune'! Unfortunately, because of space limitations at the venue I could only book two of them (a violinist and a cellist) but they more than made up for this by managing to sound like a full orchestra. Struck exactly the right balance of music choices and volume to be enjoyable without being too obtrusive and definitely made a big difference to the evening. Thoroughly recommend them for any event, they gave mine 100%+ in every way!
