Simple Strings were amazing, they played in the chapel of the castle we were getting married and the acoustics were amazing. They were a perfect addition to our day and so many of our guests commented on how much they loved the string quartet during the drinks reception and ceremony. Simple Strings recently performed in concert as part of a Parkinson's UK fundraising initiative. Their fantastic set of varied musical styles was a joy to listen to and a real highlight of the event.

I worked with Simple Strings for my friend's wedding where I was performing in the ceremony. I wrote the arrangements, which were beautifully brought to life by the quartet, and they made performing in the ceremony so special - they were a joy to work with in rehearsals and on the day, and I can't recommend them highly enough.

What do your clients love most about your performances?

We often get complimented on our range of song choices, particularly when clients recognise a beautiful theme from a film or a favourite song, expertly arranged for quartet.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

We're privileged to have played in the best venues Scotland has to offer. Some of our recent venues are the likes of Mount Stuart (Bute), Mar Hall, Boclair House, Strathaven Hotel, Signet Library, Dalkeith Castle and Gretna Green.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

So hard to choose! Though all of our musicians are classically trained to the highest standards, most of us have a sweet spot for classic film music such as Disney or any of the big epic film scores from Hollywood. We also tend to love some disco, anything from be 70s in particular!

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

We’ve had the pleasure of playing many stunning weddings, one that comes to mind was an American party that all had flown over to Scotland to book exclusive use of a castle down by the west coast, purely to have been married in our beautiful country. For them a location wedding, for us just an hour away but it was stunning and a total pleasure to play!

Do you have different line-up options?

Our lineup is a standard string quartet of two violins, viola and cello. We can offer a trio for ceremony only packages at a reduced fee.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

We always try our best to be flexible to help ensure your event runs as smoothly as possible. We generally allow a 15 minute grace if the call to dinner is later than expected to make sure your guests stay entertained!

How much time do you need to set up?

It takes us no more than 30 mins to setup and tune, but we arrive at least 1 hour 15 mins before your ceremony is due to start so that we're ready to play as your guests arrive up to half an hour before.

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

Yes, please do! We love everything we play, so anything on the setlist can be picked as ceremony choices or for during the drinks reception. When booking with us we also offer one free arrangement if there's something you'd like that we don't play yet.

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

Yes, we provide all instruments, music stands, folders and when required, amplification. We just require 4 non-armed chairs from the venue at both the ceremony and drinks reception location.

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

We're more than happy learning new music for your event! We offer one new arrangement per booking free of charge, get in touch if you have more than one request not included on our list.
