About Scott

A graduate of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Scott is a world champion piper who has performed globally for the last 15 years.
Bagpiper
Glasgow

Scott Figgins is a Scottish traditional musician from the West coast of Scotland, specialising in highland bagpipes and bellow-blown pipes; guitar; and whistles. With a wealth of experience playing in pipe bands, as a solo player and in the traditional and folk music scene, Scott is a highly experienced musician with invaluable hours spent playing in competition, concert, private functions and informal atmospheres. Striving to innovate and collaborate across genres, Scott is always keen to perform widely and learn new skills. Scott currently plays in ‘Eriska’, a folk-fusion 6 piece band from Glasgow where he plays pipes and whistles. Through ‘Eriska’, Scott has gained experience recording albums; gigging extensively; touring; as well as radio and television performances. Scott also recorded his second album in 2018 in collaboration with American fiddler Peter Pezzino; and released a third recording in 2019 with duo partner Scott Garden. In addition to experience performing, Scott also has invaluable teaching experience in his local pipe band and in schools, taking on all levels from complete beginner to experienced bandsmen of all ages. He has also partaken in a lot of collaborative work: being part of local Fèis events; the ‘Monster Folk Group’ project; the North Ayrshire Schools Traditional Music Group; Celtic Connections Festival; ‘National Fête de la Musique’ in France; recording for BBC Radio Scotland; and pipe band work. He also won the Young Burnsian of the Year Award for 2014 and was a semi-finalist in the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician 2020. Having appeared in concert alongside the likes of Phil Cunningham, Ali Bain, Eddi Reader, Dougie MacLean and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra; Scott has an established performing career spanning across many aspects. Having graduated from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland with a BMus (Hons) in Traditional Music in 2018, Scott is always looking to expand on his musical experience and further deepen his understanding of the music he loves, as well as other genres, making him a desired and accomplished musician. Scott is a dependable, punctual and reliable musician available for booking as a soloist or for collaborative work.

Customer questions

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

I always try my best to be flexible to help ensure your event runs as smoothly as possible. If timings change slightly in the run up to the event just let me know and I will do my best to accommodate.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

As a solo piper, this is not usually a service I offer but this can be discussed if it is something you'd be interested in.

How much time do you need to set up?

As a soloist, I don't need much time to set up. For example, at weddings I usually arrive 30 minutes early to allow time to acquaint myself with the venue and warm up my bagpipes.

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

The example set list in my profile has been crafted after years of performing at all sorts of events including weddings, birthday parties and other private and corporate events. These are the most commonly requested pieces in my repertoire, but my repertoire expands far beyond this.

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

Absolutely, I bring my own instrument and will be dressed appropriately for the occasion. This includes full Scottish highland dress.

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

I am happy to take requests on board for no extra cost, but please bear in mind that certain pieces do sound rather different when performed as a soloist on the highland bagpipes. If you have a special piece you'd like performed (within reason), I will do my best to play it for you.

What do your clients love most about your performances?

I am often complimented on my punctuality and personal presentation upon arrival. I take great pride in my appearance and ensure that my highland dress is always as well looked after as it can possibly be. I understand that organising an event can be stressful, so I always aim to make things as easy as they can be for you by promptly replying to all emails.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

I have performed all over Scotland and Europe alongside some of the best artists in Scottish Traditional Music in the finest venues in the country. This includes performing with Phil Cunningham in the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland; Eddi Reader in the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall; and Dougie MacLean in the Hilton, Glasgow.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

My major influences come mainly from my tutors during my 4 year degree at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland which include Finlay MacDonald, Ross Ainslie and Willie McCallum.

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

I have performed alongside some great names, but one of my most memorable performances was in 2018 in Glasgow for the European Championships when my performance was broadcast on television and radio worldwide. This was with my folk band "Eriska".
