Scarlett is a Soprano who in July 2023 graduated from Leeds Conservatoire with a first class degree in Classical Vocal studies, and was awarded the Peter Roberts CBE Memorial Graduation Prize. Scarlett started her singing with Opera North Youth Chorus in 2014. With the chorus she performed in Pirates of Penzance at Edinburgh Fringe, Holocaust Memorial days in Leeds Town Hall and Prague, the Danish Opera festival ‘GoOP!’, Leeds First Direct Arena backing singing for Barry Manilow and several Christmas concerts at Dewsbury Town Hall. Scarlett continued singing at Leeds Conservatoire where she studied Solo singing, Ensemble performance, music theory, community music, language for singers, conducting and the use of the body in music. Scarlett also performed recitals in Wakefield Cathedral, the Otley Courthouse, and the sounds of Leeds Conservatoire concert series. In her second year of study Scarlett was successful in gaining the lead role of Alice in the conservatoire’s opera project “Down the Rabbit Hole” directed by Emma Black. In her third and final year Scarlett was awarded the Margaret Markland Bursary for the Yorkshire Philharmonic Choir, where she performed Handel's Messiah, Mendelssohn's Elijah, Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle, Elgar's The Music Makers and Faure’s requiem in Wakefield Cathedral. In December 2022, Scarlett was given the honour of singing the “Once in Royal David City” solo at the NHS Christmas concert in York Minster in front of 3000 people. This service was also recorded and played across hospitals in the North of England on Christmas Day. After graduating Scarlett has continued performing. Scarlett continues to sing with the Yorkshire Philharmonic Choir and performed the “Three Kings” Solo in the choir’s recent Christmas concert. She also started working for the Same Difference Arts Company as a part of the Carol singers tour where she sang at Beamish Museum, The Royal Liver Building, Black Country Living Museum, York Castle Museum, and a variety of Christmas Markets. This job required her to sing in different trios every gig unaccompanied, she alternated working in the trio as a Soprano 1 and 2.

Scarlett performed at our wedding on Saturday. From the time of our booking through to the event Scarlett always replied promptly to any questions we had, she even messaged us to ask what we would like her to wear at the event. We had booked Scarlett for 30 minutes, performing classical music for our Guest arrival reception and also sung for the bridal entrance. Scarlett arrived early to practise for acoustics and ensure she sounded well in the venue, and so many of our guests commented on how good she is. Not only was her performance outstanding, but her professionalism was also to be admired. We would have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending her. She was outstanding and words cannot express how impressed we were. Thank you Scarlett!

Absolutely fantastic! We hired Scarlett to sing at my grandfathers funeral and we are so glad we chose her. Scarlett with her beautiful vocals made the service extra special which we will treasure forever. Scarlett was so professional and her communication was efficient and she even communicated with the celebrant which took an enormous amount of pressure off of our family at an already stressful time. Thank you Scarlett we will definitely be recommending you to others.

From the videos I was expecting a confident and therefore a much louder vocal from a soprano. The church was a small church and there was only an organist. Scarlett seemed unfamiliar with the song and words when she was singing, even though she had a hard copy of the music. I feel this was what was holding the performance back rather than ability. The start of the vocal on entry to church was missed on the first song as we walked in. I would have preferred for the booking to be refused if unfamiliar with the music so much so it affected performance. The music pieces were special to myself and my family. If I noticed the issues when I was walking in to my own fathers funeral they were probably noticeable to other people who were less focused on the moment than I. No doubt a talented performer and vocalist, but on this occasion her usual high standard was maybe not achieved. This booking was fairly last minute which may have been a combining factor for her also.

It is very disappointing and somewhat surprising to read your negative comments as both the organist and I thought we coped well under extremely difficult circumstances. You booked me to lead hymn singing at a funeral, not to perform the hymns as solo pieces. I accepted the booking on this basis. When the organist and I were handed the order of service there was no mention of the hymns and no printed words. We were not even sure at what point in the service you wanted each of them. I was therefore forced to sing them alone as none of the congregation stood or joined in. These are congregational hymns. If you stand me at the back of a carpeted church to sing them (as I was instructed) they will sound nothing like an aria performed from the front. Furthermore, if you had made this clear I would not have accepted the booking. Despite the short notice I can assure you that I was fully prepared. I have been singing these hymns since I was 3 years old at school and in various choirs and I am very familiar with them. I did receive complimentary comments from the funeral director and several others in the congregation and I shall take heart from that and conclude that your negative comments were based upon a misunderstanding.

Scarlett was amazing singing Ave Maria at our church wedding ceremony. Scarlett has a fantastic voice with many of our guests commenting on what a moving performance Scarlett did during the signing of our vows. We would highly recommend Scarlett.

What do your clients love most about your performances?

I come prepared and always interact with the congregation members. I always ask before hand what you would like me to wear so I fit in best for your aesthetic!

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

I have performed in many different venues- for example my local churches, school chapel, Wakefield Cathedral and York Minster. I have also performed at Leeds town hall and on the Sage in Newcastle as well as in Edinburgh Fringe, as well as performing regularly in my Conservatoire's Venue.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

I am heavily influenced by my University tutor, she is introducing me to modern repertoire which is really interesting and fun. I also recently watched Soprano Marie Flavin in La Traviata and she sounded absolutely breath taking, to one day to perform to her standard is a goal for me.

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

It has to be 2020 Holocaust Memorial Day at Leeds town hall, it was such an emotional performance.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

I will try my best to be very flexible. If times change just let me know and I will adapt accordingly.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

No, this is not usually required for church singing.

How much time do you need to set up?

I usually arrive an hour or so before the event to test the venues acoustics and get my bearings.

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

My set list has been crafted from previous performances, I am happy to talk though it and let you chose songs as well as learn new repertoire for your event as long as a months prior notice is given.

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

I provide my own backing tracks or sheet music for accompanists.

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

I am perfectly capable of learning new music. I do ask you give me at least a months notice. There is no additional cost for learning new music.
