About Sally

An electrifying interactive performer, Sally takes traditional classical violin playing into the future with show-stopping virtuosity.
Violinist

Public liability insurance of £10 million

Sally enjoys a varied musical career playing violin around the world. From classical performances to high-impact electric shows and collaborations with DJs, Sally lives for the feeling of performing for an audience, and sharing her unique style and contemporary edge. Born in Hertfordshire, Sally learnt to play the violin at age of three via Suzuki Violin Method. This early training encouraged her to learn to play music by ear without sheet music, and this notion opened up a whole world of musical creativity and a passion for improvisation. Classically trained throughout school, she won a host of musical awards both on a local and national scale. These included a Benslow Instrument Award for which she was loaned a fine Thomas Urquhart violin from 1680, as well as a BBC Fame Academy Bursary with which she used to purchase her first electric violin at the age of fifteen. With this and a love of contemporary music, Sally really started to experiment with what the violin could do. Sally went on to read Music at Oxford University as an exhibitioner before gaining a Distinction in her Masters in Violin Performance at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. With a passion for ballet and years of training in dance, Sally grew up listening to an eclectic range of dance music, inspired by classical, pop, jazz, EDM, deep house and commercial chart music. Sally combines this love of dance into her performances, thrilling audiences worldwide with her ability to move interactively and improvise. She now plays electric violin in London, throughout the UK, and around the world. Sally is the face of English sparkling wine brand, Nyetimber’s premium product line - 1086. She is also featured as the soloist on the soundtrack of this global ad campaign, also known as ‘The Performance’. Other notable performance highlights include performing ‘The Lark Ascending’ by Vaughan Williams at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show for VIPs in the Wedgwood Garden, as well as regular shows at the enclosures in Henley Royal Regatta and Royal Ascot. Sally has a wealth of experience performing for celebrities and at events such as the opening of the Mall of Egypt, UEFA Cup Final Dinner, ExxonMobil Tennis Gala Dinner, AFCB Player Awards, fashion launches, and VIP weddings. Recent clients include Rolls Royce, Dom Perignon, Alexander McQueen, Vogue, Jaguar, MINI, Bombay Sapphire, Aquascutum, Dell, Air France, KLM, and London Fashion Week. Playing over DJ sets, Sally frequently performs at luxury private parties, and has opened sets for artists such as Jessie J, Madness, Bob Sinclair, and has jammed with legendary producer Timbaland. As a backing violinist, Sally has performed alongside some of the world’s biggest artists such as Calvin Harris, John Legend, Michael Bublé, Ellie Goulding, John Newman, Rita Ora, Sigma, FKA Twigs, Don Broco, Alfie Boe and Russell Watson. Television performance credits include The BBC Music Awards, Britain's Got Talent, Strictly Come Dancing, Top of the Pops and The X Factor to name a few. Sally plays a Ted Brewer clear perspex LED electric violin, a silver marble Bridge electric violin, and a silver Violectra electric violin.

Fantastic. Sally was outstanding, she is a superb musician but her ability to read the vibe in the room and play something aligned to that, shows what a real talent she has.

Sally performed at the Vogue Gold Night Out event in our Aquascutum Westfield store in November 2014. She provided the perfect entertainment and really set the mood for the evening. She was a pleasure to work with, completely professional, poised, and absolutely gorgeous! It was so refreshing to hear classical renditions of popular chart music and you could tell the customers truly enjoyed her performance from start to finish. A pleasure to work with.

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

I play pop covers completely from memory and can roam around interacting with guests. I perform a vast repertoire of well-know pop covers, from classic mellow ballads to current dance and chart music. My electric violin also has the ability to light-up with sound-to-light technology! For evening parties I can perform with DJ to get the party started.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

RHS Chelsea Flower Show, Henley Royal Regatta, Royal Ascot, The Dorchester, Claridge's, Annabel's, The Ivy Asia St Paul's, Grosvenor House Hotel, Aynhoe Park, Natural History Museum, The Science Museum, The Wallace Collection, Monaco Sporting Club, Hippie Fish Mykonos, The Sheraton Hua Hin, The Galaxy Macau, The Venetian Las Vegas, Davos Congress Center.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

Yehudi Menuhin, Stéphane Grappelli, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Santana, Beyoncé, Calvin Harris, Clean Bandit.

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

I once performed at the home of one of the Spice Girls for a VIP celebrity dinner of around 10 guests - very surreal! In terms of concerts, I recently performed with Liam Gallagher on his MTV Unplugged session from Hull and Jonathan Ross.

Do you have different line-up options?

Either solo acoustic or electric violin performance.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

I always try my best to be flexible to help ensure your event runs as smoothly as possible. If timings change slightly in the run up to the event just get in touch.

How much time do you need to set up?

I usually aim to arrive between 1 hour – 90 minutes before I am due to start performing. I will need this time to set up any sound equipment and do a quick sound check. As soon as my PA is set up we can provide a free playlist service to help set the atmosphere and get your guests ready for our live performance!

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

I have ready-made playlists that I know from experience work well for different types of events. However, if there are any genres you would particularly like to focus on, or any songs/pieces that are big no-no’s, please do let me know.

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

I provide my own PA and sound equipment depending on the size of the event. For events up to 150 guests, I can provide my own Bose L1 Compact PA system. For larger events and bookings outside the UK, I require an AV company at the venue with sound engineer for whom I can provide a specific tech spec.

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

I am happy to learn up to 5 extra requests that are not already on this list. All I ask is that you let me know these requests at least one month before the event.
