Verified profile

Robin Hay is one of Scotland's most experienced and versatile pipers, with a career spanning 30 years that has taken him from the iconic battlements of Edinburgh Castle and Stirling Castle to the world-renowned Trump Turnberry resort and the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. Trained at the world-famous College of Piping, Robin has competed at the highest level — including the World Pipe Band Championships — and has been featured on BBC Radio Scotland, bringing the sound of the Great Highland Bagpipe to a national audience. Weddings & Elopements Robin understands that your wedding day is one of the most important moments of your life. From grand celebrations at some of Scotland's finest wedding venues — including Dundas Castle, Brig o'Doon, Newhall Estate, House for an Art Lover, Norton House and Cameron House on the shores of Loch Lomond — to intimate elopements in Scotland's most breathtaking landscapes — the iconic "Wee White House" in Glencoe overlooked by Buachaille Etive Mór, the shores of Loch Lomond, and the dramatic setting of Arthur's Seat and Holyrood Park in Edinburgh — Robin brings the magic of the Highland bagpipe to wherever your special moment takes place. For traditional weddings, Robin covers guest arrivals, leads the bride up the aisle and pipes the happy couple into their wedding dinner for that unforgettable grand entrance. He brings warmth, professionalism and a genuine passion to every performance — whether a classic Scottish ceremony or something more unique. Robin has also performed alongside dhol drummers at Indian weddings and with tribal bands at Stirling Castle, making him a versatile choice for non-traditional celebrations too. Robin has an extensive repertoire of Scottish favourites — from Highland Cathedral, Scotland the Brave, Mhairi's Wedding, Highland Laddie and The Black Bear, to more contemporary and cinematic pieces including the iconic Last of the Mohicans theme, the Braveheart theme and modern hits such as Ed Sheeran converted beautifully onto the pipes — ensuring there is something for everyone, whatever your taste. Corporate & Special Events Robin is a popular choice for Burns Suppers, Hogmanay celebrations, graduation ceremonies and corporate events across Scotland. Most notably, he led a procession of 500 people to the fireworks at the Edinburgh Hogmanay street party and has performed at graduation ceremonies at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall — one of Scotland's most prestigious concert venues. Why choose Robin? With a perfect 5★ rating across every category — satisfaction, professionalism, communication and punctuality — Robin's clients consistently praise not just his playing, but his friendly manner and meticulous attention to detail. Every performance is different, but the goal is always the same — to make your occasion truly unforgettable. Get in touch today — Robin would love to be part of your special occasion.

We had the pleasure of welcoming Robin to our wedding at Linlithgow Palace in to pipe me into our ceremony. I'm Australian and my husband is Scottish. We travelled to Scotland especially for our wedding, so I had my hands full trying to organise my wedding from across the globe. Robin's service was exceptional and he was a pleasure to deal with. He was professional and friendly and helped us make wonderful memories of our wedding. As I wasn't sure about songs, he offered the beautiful recommendation of Highland Cathedral and to this day, I still cry everytime I hear it on the bagpipes. He continued to play for us while we had photographs taken around the palace and our guests thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment! I couldn't recommend Robin's service highly enough. Thanks for everything, Robin. Lani & David Watt

Customer questions

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

Robin Hay always try's to be flexible to help ensure your event runs as smoothly as possible. If timings change slightly in the run up to the event just let him know asap.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

No, I don't provide any IPod/DJ service.

How much time do you need to set up?

Robin Hay normally plans arriving before the service / event to tune up and get ready. Tuning of the bagpipes doesn't take too long.

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

Robin Hay's musical repertoire are crafted from countless performances and he has good knowledge on what works best. However, if there is a particular piece of music you would like to hear, then chat it through with Robin prior to your event and he will do his best to accommodate where possible.

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

Yes, absolutely! I bring my own instrument to play.

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

If there is a piece of music you would like to hear at your wedding or event, then he would check if he knows and if not, would do best to write the music and learn ahead of the event (provided sufficient time available).

What do your clients love most about your performances?

I have a warm and genuine enthusiasm for each event and thoroughly enjoy playing the bagpipes and entertaining people. I take great pride in my uniform, appearance and performance. You may not have employed a piper before and might have lots of questions you need answered, feel free to ask me. I am here to help and will be sympathetic to your needs.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

Many Venues across Scotland. Sample below: For Weddings - Linlithgow Palace, Castlecary House Hotel, Sherbrooke Castle Hotel, Grand Central Hotel, Beecraigs Country Park. For Corporate / Charity Events - Glasgow Uni, Edinburgh Uni, Queen Margaret Uni, Assembly Rooms Edin, National Piping Centre, People's Palace.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

Red Hot Chilli Pipers.

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

I have played the bagpipes on Clyde 1 and Clyde 2 radio stations. Firstly on a documentary about Scotland and Burns Supper and have also played a tune ahead of a Scotland football match. Met some high profile DJ's, all of them very friendly. Another high profile was leading a procession of 500 people to the fireworks of the Edinburgh street party.
