About Richard

No church No problem - Live organ and piano music virtually anywhere!
Organist
Cambridge
Public liability insurance of £10 million

I have over 20 years experience playing organ and piano in church, worship bands, accompanying instrumentalists and singers, and have directed small and large choirs in many churches around the UK, currently organist and choirmaster at St Andrew's Church, Girton. I have the ability to provide appropriate music to suit every occasion, with a range of styles from classical, pop and jazz. Even if what you require is not in my normal repertoire, I can sight read well so I’m happy to play something a bit different. A a recent wedding, I had a request to play 'First Step’ from the film Interstellar by Hans Zimmer, which I arranged and performed from the recording for organ / piano and strings during the signing of the register. I first got the bug for music singing as a treble in the local church choir, and started learning piano then progressed to organ. I received a CertRCO (Royal College of Organists) in 2007, having trained with Kevin Bowyer and Gerard Brooks from the the RCO St Giles Organ School. During the week I generally teach piano and organ, online and from my home in Central Cambridge and in Bishop’s Stortford, to around 50 students of all ages and abilities across classical, pop and jazz styles. I also give lessons in music technology e.g. Sibelius, Logic, and prepare students for theory exams. You can check my disclosure from DBS for working with children and vulnerable adults Previously until 2015 I was a software engineer in the broadcast industry, having originally graduated from York University in 2000, with a BEng Electronic Engineering and Music Technology Systems and in 2015 a PGDip Software Development from the Open University. If you want to discuss your requirements, please drop me a line or come and see me for a chat over coffee after the Sunday morning service in St Andrew’s Girton.
