Ray Box is a professional violinist and viola player based between Chichester and London. He began his musical journey with West Sussex Music, progressing to the County Youth Orchestra, before reading music at the University of Chichester where he toured America and Europe and performed with the Jersey Symphony Orchestra. Following his degree, Ray studied his MA at the Royal Academy of Music, where he performed with the Academy Baroque Orchestra, London Baroque Camerata and London Phoenix Orchestra among others, and took masterclasses with Rachel Podger and members of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. Since 2008 he has worked as a freelance violinist and violist across a wide range of settings — orchestral concerts, chamber music, theatre orchestra, recordings, weddings and events — performing at venues including Cadogan Hall, St John's Smith Square, Chichester Cathedral and Abbey Road.

Do you have different line-up options?

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

I never double book a performance day, so I am fully flexible on the day providing reasonable notice is given for travel to the venue

How much time do you need to set up?

Set up time depends on the group required, I allow 30-45 minutes before the scheduled performance.

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

Set lists are available on request and specific repertoire requests are welcome at the time of booking. If you have a particular piece in mind for your wedding or event, I am happy to source it

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

Yes, I will bring everything I need to an acoustic performance

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

Yes — specific repertoire requests are welcome at the time of booking. For solo performances I can prepare pieces at no additional cost. For ensemble bookings, a short rehearsal may be required and a small additional fee per player may apply
