Ray began playing violin at an early age taking inspiration from his Uncle. He went on to learn with the West Sussex Music service and worked his way up to the County Youth Orchestra.
Ray read music at College, graduating with a distinction and went from there to his Bachelor degree at the University of Chichester. While at the University, Ray went on tour to America and Europe and performed with the Jersey Symphony Orchestra. He has performed for Royalty at various prestigious events with his String Quartet, University Orchestra and other ensembles, playing both violin and viola.
One major part of Ray’s musical development was to lead the Theatre Orchestra in many productions over three years including Mozart’s Magic Flute, Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld and popular shows such as Carousel and Beauty and the Beast.
Following his degree, Ray was offered a place at both the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal College of Music of which he chose to study his Master of Arts at the Royal Academy under the direction of Nicolette Moonen and Margaret Faultless. Ray has taken part in several Masterclasses including Rachel Podger and members of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.
During his time in London, Ray performed with many ensembles such as the Academy Baroque Orchestra for the Bach Cantata Series and a Handel Opera, London Baroque Camerata, Consort of 12, and the London Phoenix Orchestra amongst others.
Ray is now based in West Sussex and performs all genres of music from Baroque to Modern and Argentine Tangos!
He performs and teaches across the south of England and London.
