Rachel studied at Birmingham Conservatoire with George Caird and Jonathan Kelly gaining a 1st class B.Mus(hons). She then went on to further studies at Guildhall School of Music and Drama where she studied with Richard Simpson and Kieron Moore. Since college days Rachel has become a busy freelancer on oboe, oboe d'amore and cor anglais and also has a passion for education. Rachel is principal oboe of the Southern Sinfonia, International Film Orchestra, British Philharmonic Concert Orchestra and the English Pro Musica and is a regular member of the Brandenburg Sinfonia. Rachel has worked with many other orchestras over the years including the Las Vegas Symphony Orchestra (UK), Brandenburg Sinfonia, Southern Sinfonia, BBC Concert Orchestra, Glyndebourne Touring Opera, London Mozart Players, London Chamber Orchestra, London Concert Orchestra, Heritage Opera amongst many others. As an orchestral musician Rachel has been involved in many recordings and radio broadcasts including many 'Friday Night is Music Night' concerts with the BBC Concert Orchestra. Recently she was part of the Southern Sinfonia recording of music by Elena Pavlea for the album 'The Shape of Freedom' and as a soloist Rachel recorded the background music for Philippa Perry's Audible Podcast called 'Families in Crisis'. Rachel has performed concertos with numerous orchestras, most recently performing Bach Concerto for Oboe and Violin, Albinoni Concert Op 9 no2, Bach Brandenburg Concerto No2 and Handel concerto No1 with the Southern Sinfonia, directed by David Hill and Gabriels oboe and the Marcello Concerto at the Great Bowden New Years day concert. With various orchestras she has also performed the Mozart Concerto, Hummel's Introduction, Theme and Variations and the Marcello Concerto. During the 2017 and 2018 she also gave many performances of Gabriels Oboe with the British Philharmonic Concert Orchestra including a performance on New Years Eve at the beautiful Buxton Opera House. Her recital work is always something that Rachel is passionate about, finding programmes that are approachable and exciting that also introduce audiences to new composers and exciting repertoire and at a recent recital her playing was described as 'Poignant, dramatic and beautifully shaped' Her most recent recitals have been an introduction to the oboe at The Leys School in Cambridge and a double oboe recital with the oboist Philip Haworth exploring the repertoire for 2 oboes, oboe and cor anglais and oboe and oboe d'amore.

What do your clients love most about your performances?

I am a very approachable musician. I enjoy mingling with the audience before a chamber concert, having a chat and welcoming people. My playing speaks to the heart, I feel it and it is so important for me to communicate that emotion to the audience.
