About Palavah

Unique, acoustic sounding and versatile, we play upbeat fun music that crosses the genres and spans the decades.
Function band
London
Public liability insurance of £1 million

Palavah is a function band with a difference. Since 2014 we have been in constant demand playing at parties, weddings, pubs and venues. We don't look or sound like your typical corporate copycat band, instead we have our own unique sound and we play songs that everyone loves and that we love in our own acoustic style. We don't use drum machines or backing tracks and everything we play is played live by us. We have a huge repertoire of songs and tunes everyone knows and loves bringing a smile to the faces of all age groups. Imagine the romance of the violin, the Parisian sound of the accordion, the deep sound of the bass all mixed up with rhythm and the addition of lush vocal harmonies. We tailor each set list for every event and our full upbeat songs will get your toes tapping. You can expect to hear all your favourites number performed on many different instruments. We have our own PA sound system and we also have portable battery amps which are good for outdoors where no power supply is available. We are also happy to play with no amplification - old school, if that's what you fancy. We're friendly and easy going so feel free to get in touch!

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

People love the fact that we have something for all age groups. We literally play songs and tunes that span the decades and cross the genres. It's all good fun upbeat stuff that get your toes tapping and plenty of people end up singing along. We also have quiet subtler numbers so it's all about communicating your ideas to us so we can make your event work.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

Black Barn, Livestock festival, Sandbanks Jazz Café, Chelsea Old Town Hall and plenty of pubs, clubs, restaurants, weddings, parties, farmers markets, Christmas lights switch on's, schools, bandstands, everything from small art galleries to main stages...

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

Edith Piaf, Bob Dylan, Blondie, Patsy Cline, Kraftwerk, Joy Division, Johnny Cash, Pogues, Peter Starsted, Doors, Carpenters, Kinks, Andrews Sisters, Italian, French, Irish folk, Trio, Doris Day, Neil Young, Dolly Parton, Leonard Cohen, Van Morrison, Morecambe and Wise, Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band, Marlene Dietrich, Ella Fitzgerald, Mary Hopkins, Stealers Wheel

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

Sandbanks Jazz Cafe´

Will the singer be the same as who I see in the videos?

We aim to make sure the line-up you see is what you get on the night but we also have regular 'stand in' musicians who play with us on a regular basis who step in if a band member is unavailable, that way we can still perform as a great band and can avoid disappointment.

Do you have different line-up options?

Yes. Our regular 5 piece line-up is male and female vocals, violin, accordion, drums and percussion, double bass, ukulele, banjo and guitar. However, for the icing on the cake we have an amazing clarinet player who joins us for our 6 piece line-up depending on budget.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

Everything is fine. We can work with you around what you need and what we are able to do. We are usually very easy going and flexible so communication is the key.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes, we have a full mixing desk that takes ipods, ipads and computers.

How much time do you need to set up?

We usually require 1 hour to set up. This of course depends on whether we are using our own pa. For events and festivals where the pa is provided we can work with a tighter turnaround time.

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

Yes, we have over 100 songs in our repertoire so we are happy to work with you in your choices which will hopefully give you the best balance of material for your event.

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA & lighting) included in your quote?

Yes. We are able to play both with and without amplification.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

Yes that's no problem. We have performed at many weddings where the bride and groom would like to choose the first song. We understand that sometimes you would really like to hear something in particular and we are happy to learn something new and add it to our every expanding set-list.
