Cellist

Public liability insurance of £10 million

Whether it's elegant Bach down the aisle, a hymn during the service, a tango during drinks or creating an atmosphere for your yoga retreat, you can be sure of a totally unique soundtrack to your event. With a particular love of improvising, Miriam specialises in creating unique multilayered cello sounds, using live loops, recorded live, using a loop pedal. Exploring this particular technique she has hosted and delivered shimmering soundscapes to both her own Creative Space and other yoga workshops and retreats. Miriam has worked closely with and recorded her own syrupy sound for singer songwriters. She has also enjoyed writing and arranging her own string parts for larger ensembles. Miriam also particularly enjoys the process of recording and adding her own earnest sound to film scores. To discuss your own bespoke wedding music or create a unique soundtrack to your event, feel free to get in touch!

Miriam was absolutely wonderful at our wedding yesterday. Her playing was beautiful and really set the mood for the ceremony and reception. She turned up with a smile and really worked around the logistics. She was fantastic at helping to discuss an arrangement to play and was very accommodating about working around our needs. Would very highly recommend Miriam for anyone considering a cellist for their wedding, couldn't have been happier!

Miriam was absolutely excellent at our wedding, played beautifully and really contributed to the atmosphere. In the weeks and months leading up to the day Miriam communicated regularly back and forth with regards to the set list (which all in all, from me was 4 playlists which Miriam then had to go through and pull everything together, which she did perfectly 👌) 10/10 would wholeheartedly recommend Miriam to make your special day that extra bit special ☺️

Our father died aged 91 recently and as classical music had been his absolute joy throughout his life, we knew that we had to make it part of his small and very intimate funeral. How lucky (and delighted) we were to find through lastminutemusicians that a professional, Miriam, lives locally and that she would like to be part of this celebration of his long life. Miriam could not have been more helpful or sensitive in helping us to choose and adapt four very special pieces and she played them beautifully, especially as unlike a wedding there was so little time for preparation. We shall never forget the sound of her playing her arrangement for cello of Ralph Vaughan Williams' Five Variants of 'Dives and Lazarus' as my father's coffin was lifted and borne out of the chapel, and continuing to hear it as we followed it to his final resting place. It was the one piece that he had ever mentioned as wishing to include at his funeral, and it meant a huge amount to have it played live by someone who cared very much about her role in the service. He would have loved to have heard it, and who knows, perhaps he did. Our heartfelt thanks, Miriam.

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

I love to play! I play authentic heart music, which I think comes across, whatever the setting.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

Royal Albert Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Union Chapel, the Forum...

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

Bach, Vivaldi, Barber, Nyman, Bloch, Gorecki, Shostakovich, Hans Zimmer...

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

I think every gig is important and you try to bring your best. Music is not any more valuable in one particular setting. I suppose playing live on Later with Jools Holland was memorable...

Do you have different line-up options?

I bring a flexible cello ensemble line up, using layered loops, recorded live, as I play for your wedding, event or yoga retreat.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

All timings will need to be fixed 2 weeks prior to the event. Unfortunately, I will not be able to play longer than the agreed end time, on the day.

How much time do you need to set up?

30 mins set up time is preferred. I have a minimum space requirement of 2mx2m level ground for playing, under cover (for outdoor events), no more than 1m from a plug point or extension lead must be provided. Many thanks.

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

You may pick any song, style of music or particular piece you would like me to play, provided I have time to prepare (no later than 2 weeks before the event).

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

I bring all but the plug point please!

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

I can learn anything, provided I have sufficient time to prepare.
