Meredith Hughes began playing the oboe as a child in Winchester. She studied with Sarah Francis at the Royal College of Music Junior Department, where she played in the JD Symphony Orchestra and won the Sally Wainwright Woodwind Prize. At sixth form, Meredith joined the Hampshire Specialist Music Course, performing as a soloist in works such as the Vaughan Williams Oboe Concerto, Bach Oboe and Violin Concerto and Mozart Oboe Quartet. She has been a member of various orchestras and ensembles, including Hampshire County Youth Orchestra, Hampshire Sinfonia, the National Youth Chamber Orchestra, Oxford University Orchestra and Ensemble ISIS. Meredith is currently reading music at Worcester College Oxford and is an instrumental scholar; she has lessons with John Anderson at the RCM.
