Bass Guitarist
London

Matteo began his musical upbringing at 8 years old. Inspired by his father and mother, guitarist and vocalist actively performing during the 60's and early 70's era and by his relative classical pianist Ivo Pogorelich, he studied electric and double bass at the conservatory of his hometown (Terni, Italy). In 1996 Matteo discovered his ease and passion for the electric bass, which became his main instrument ever since, and in 2005 his talent was recognised by Irene Grandi's bass player Marco Caudai. Matteo moved to London in 2007 to expand his skills and keep looking for that sound. He shared stages with world known figures such as Roy Ayers, Martha and The Vandellas, Neville Staple, Linda Lewis, Eliza Doolittle, Roots Manuva, Curiosity Killed The Cat etc. Hanging at popular and underground London's jam sessions gave birth to a wide array of circumstances. Some of his collaborations include: Afrik Bawantu, Faith I Branko, Asian Dub Foundation, Seeds of Creation, Full Attack Band, Tantz, Tony Dudu & Gumbe Jazz, The Boom Yeh, Gizelle Smith, Living Sounds, Ruby Goe, The Toasters and many others as well as having recorded for pop artists like Oceana. With a very percussive approach to his instrument and his compositions, his music combines his love for funk and jazz with his experimental approach, leaving large room for grooves and flamboyant compositions. While his collaborations and his experience as a pro session musician bring everything to life with hip vibes and rumbling rhythms.

Customer questions

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

I always try my best to be flexible to help ensure your event runs as smoothly as possible. If timings change slightly in the run up to the event just let me know.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Absolutely. This is a really popular request and I actually offer this service for free. If you'd like a DJ service via our PA after the final set until the venue closes, I can provide this for an additional £100.

How much time do you need to set up?

We usually set up about 1 to 1.30 hours before the performance time. As soon as our PA is set up we can provide a free playlist service to help set the atmosphere and get your guests ready for our live performance.

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

Our set lists are crafted from countless performances and learning what works best to ensure guests dance and have an amazing time. However, we're definitely happy to chat through and make sure we find what works for your event.

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

Yes, absolutely! I bring my own instrument to play acoustically.

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

If a song isn't included in our song list there may still be a chance we already know it. If there is a special song you'd like us to learn we are happy to do this for you. There is a fee of £30 for this service to take into account rehearsal times etc.

What do your clients love most about your performances?

My energy on stage... They always says that my moves are infectious!

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

Worldwide Festivals, Womad, Ealing Jazz festival (opening for Roy Ayers), UK summer festivals, Ronnie Scott's, The Hideaway, Jazz @ Pizza Express, Passing Clouds, The Hootananny, Royal Albert Hall. The list goes on & on & on & on.....

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

Prince, Jamiroquai, Stevie Wonder, Gil Scott Heron, Curtis Mayfield, Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, Jaco Pastorius, SouLive.

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

Opened for Roy Ayers and Martha Reeves & The Vandellas in Spain. I also have perfomed my own original material on a festival stage in France, the audience for that gig was five thousands people.
