I’m Marzena a soul singer that adopted music in my life at 16. I’ve always had a love of expression through soul music. As a child I often performed at events at school and my local church and was always involved in out of school productions and plays. I studied and got my diploma in Performance and Production in college which allowed me the space to learn all aspects of performance. Whether that meant being the main vocalist, or supporting the main singer with backing vocals. During this time I delved into my chosen genres on a much deeper level. For the past 2 years I’ve been studying a part time Popular Music Degree. This course has opened the doors to me mastering my craft as an artist, discovering my niche and building a strong network of like-minded musicians that I regularly perform alongside. As well as Pop and Contemporary R&B, I’ve been learning jazz and 60s soul and including this into my sonic. I’ve taken much inspiration and studied artists such as Sam Cooke, Etta James and Amy Winehouse. So in performances, I’m able to attract guests of all ages because I give a new take on a nostalgic sound. I’ve performed for many promoters and organisations. A highlight was when I did a short set with ‘The Blues Project’ at a venue in Bethnal Green last Summer. I was selected to perform in front of 150 guests and fellow up and coming Soul musicians in the UK. Last year I also performed at a Women’s Day event, in Shepherds Bush, where we were able to raise money and campaign for women’s rights which is something I was very proud to be a part of. I have experience performing for hours as I performed at university events on multiple occasions. Performance of any kind is freeing to me and being able to support events and create an atmosphere for guests is what I love to do.
