Although I have lived much of my life abroad, I was raised in the United States where I first encountered the harp as a young child. When I was 7, a touring harpist performed at my primary school and I instantly fell head-over-heels in love with the instrument. I was lucky enough to have kind parents who bought me a student harp when I was 11 so I could start lessons. I received my music training the US, studying voice and harp performance at Indiana University and in Los Angeles with Marcia Dickstein. At University of California Los Angeles I studied film scoring before going on to earn my Masters in Musicology at the University of Edinburgh. The harp naturally lends itself to songwriting, and I am always playing around with new song ideas. I have recorded two albums of my own pieces and collaborated on recordings with other artists. Singing with the harp is such a pleasure, and I love taking songs from different genres and arranging them to perform in my own way with my instrument. The results can be quite surprising. I also love bringing the harp into different environments, playing with bands or theatre groups or even in the wild. I have played for all types of events, from concerts, festivals, corporate functions, weddings, clubs, restaurants, and art openings. There is something innately magical about the harp, the way it sounds and looks and can make a person feel. If I can be a part of bringing the experience of this instrument into the lives of others, then I feel like I am doing good work.

Marnie Walker played the harp during and after the church service of my wedding in June. She played beautifully and flawlessly, creating the perfect atmosphere as guest were arriving, followed by a recital of Canon in D by Pachelbel during the signing, and then a range of her extensive repertoire as guests were mingling. Everyone loved it! Not only that, Marnie looks the part and will complement any desired theme. She is very flexible with logistics and works with her clients to deliver their musical desires.

Marnie played her lovely gold harp for an exclusive business dinner I hosted. Her playing set the perfect tone for this intimate event. I was very pleased with her musicianship and professionalism.

Customer questions

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

I am happy to work to clients timings, and I'm very flexible when it comes to making changes. Changes are always subject to my availability, but all of this can be discussed as planning proceeds.

How much time do you need to set up?

I like to arrive 1 to 1.5 hours early just to be sure everything is tuned, ready and in place.

Is the transport of your harp included in your quote?

Harp transport is included within a 10 mile London radius. If the event is further afield, I will work out any extra costs involved with the client.

Do you need any equipment provided to play outdoors?

The harp is a delicate instrument, and will always need some kind of rain or sun cover when played outdoors.

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

I love working with clients to make sure music they love and connect with is included in a set list. However, I offer years of experience when it comes to putting set lists together, generally designing them myself so clients can save their energy for other things.

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

I am happy to discuss learning a new song for an event. I often do this for weddings and will include learning a new song in the price, given I have at least a month in advance of the event to arrange and rehearse the piece.
