About Maria

Maria is an Irish harpist who specialises in both classical and folk harp, available to play at weddings and events in the UK.
Public liability insurance of £10 million

Winner of the 2020 John Marson prize for outstanding musicianship, Maria McNamee is a current undergraduate scholar at Trinity Laban Conservatoire. She is an Irish harpist who began playing the harp at the age of 9, embracing both Irish folk and classical music. In 2011, Maria joined Chetham’s School of Music where she spent 6 years studying with Marie Leenhardt, Gabriella Dall’Olio and En Hudson. In 2017 Maria moved to London to start her undergraduate degree in music performance. In her first year, Maria became an Irish heritage award winner and as a result she was invited to perform as a soloist at the Blackwater Valley Opera Festival. This led to further engagements, including playing for London’s Irish ambassador at the Irish Embassy and for the Duke of Wellington at Lady Antonia’s book launch in Aspley house. Maria also performs regularly at the Queen’s house and the ORNC Chapel in London. As an orchestral musician, Maria has gained invaluable experience from playing under the baton of world-renowned conductors such as Michael Seal, Paul Mann, Jac Van Steen, Mirga Gražinyte-Tyla, Franz Anton Krager and Ilyich Rivas. Maria has been a reserve member of GMJO and EUYO for two years and she is a current member of Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra who perform regularly. Before this, Maria was the principal harpist of the Ulster Youth Orchestra and a member of the City of Birmingham youth orchestra for two years. Performing with many orchestras has brought Maria to venues such as the Royal Festival Hall, Symphony Hall (Birmingham), the Bridgewater Hall, Slovak Radio Hall, St John’s Smith Square and the Stoller Hall. As a chamber musician, Maria’s septet won 1st prize in the Fiona Ord chamber music competition in 2017. Maria is currently enjoying being part of several chamber groups, including The Maple trio (flute, viola and harp), The Marissa duo (flute and harp) and a folk trio (fiddle, percussion and harp) Maria has taken part in masterclasses with the highly acclaimed harpists Fabrice Pierre, Marie Pierre Langlamet, Sylvain Blassel, Hugh Webb and Elizabeth Fontan-Binoche. Other than playing music and teaching the harp, Maria enjoys painting, embroidery, gardening and walking/cycling. She is also a part time Nanny for two young children in her local area. Maria is very appreciative of the support she receives from The Trinity College London Scholarship.

What a delight! Maria (harp) and Gregory (violin) performed 2 x 30-minute sets for a birthday party. Punctual, friendly, organised. The music was fantastic, playing requests as well as pieces they'd chosen to fit around a specific theme. Communication was excellent, prompt responses and accurate planning. I'd definitely book them again. I can't recommend them highly enough. Thank you both!

Maria was so lovely, responsive throughout and my guests really enjoyed her two part set of classical and folk music. Maria even put together a special song at short notice for us. 5 stars, excellent and will book Maria again for another event.

Maria McNamee is everything that you want in a harpist - charming, personable and plays like an angel. Maria has been engaged by me for a number of events including corporate functions, private dinners and musical evenings. Maria's repertoire is varied and was adapted to fit the mood of the evening. Every guest asked when Maria would be back. It was like musical gold dust both for me and everyone who heard Maria and she will certainly be invited back to Carlisle Place.
