Professional, Enjoyable & Flexible

Marcus Marooth is a passionate and committed music professional, with the talent and drive to succeed. At the age of 13, Marcus received a drum kit for christmas and began to annoy his neighbors on a daily basis. Eventually, the neighbors changed their minds, as the sound evolved into more of an organised racket, before finally (to their relief) transforming into a neat and much less aggressive drum groove. By the time this had been achieved, Marcus was aged 17 and had set his sights onto playing guitar, purchasing a very cheap acoustic and an equally cheap electric guitar. Self-taught by endlessly listening to his favourite songs and learning how to recreate what he could hear on the fretboard of his own guitar. At the same time, he was practising singing with a local band and learning to perform as a vocalist. At home however, in the privacy of his bedroom, he was bringing his guitar playing and vocals together as all his musical idols all played guitar. After only one year of practising in this format, he then suddenly found himself singing in front of crowds at a local open mic night every week, he was asked to host this particular open mic for several months, which wasn't always well attended by musicians, leaving him performing to a full pub for sometimes up to 4 hours with limited material, this helped create and hone Marcus's knack for improvisation and quick-fire requests. The crowd's quickly came to enjoy Marcus's unique style of audience participation and his ability to transform a cover into a new style or play it just like the original. Listening to a wide variety of sounds and compositions, alongside reading magazines and attempting to discover as many genres as possible, Marcus has a very expansive knowledge on world music and culture whilst also being rooted in the expanding Indie scene arising in his hometown. Born and raised in Northampton, Marcus is at the geographical 'bullseye' of England, making his plans to reach outwards very realistic logistically. Shortly after establishing these goals, Marcus, with the help of an old friend assembled the band; 'Sarpa Salpa' in early 2017. Aged 23, Marcus and the band have gone on to play over 200 shows across all of the UK, including evergrowing hometown shows and have even had success in Germany and France playing to over 2,000 people in Marburg's KFZ venue to end the european tour nicely. "Unsigned four piece Sarpa Salpa head into 2019 as ones to watch following a hectic year playing over 60 shows with 20 UK festivals including The Big Feastival, Wilkestock and BBC Introducing Live, supporting the likes of Flyte, No Hot Ashes and Electric Six along the way. Following their first two releases She Never Lies & Circuits, Sarpa Salpa released their track Smith on 7” vinyl in late 2018, picking up favourable reviews and gaining airplay on BBC 6 Music. The band followed this up in February 2019 with Casanova. The track received multiple plays from BBC 6 Music and BBC Radio 1 after being selected as BBC Introducing Radio 1 Track of the Week in March 2019, an achievement relatively unheard of by an unsigned band. Sarpa Salpa released their latest single Before It Goes Dark in August 2019, already receiving plays on Huw Stephen's BBC Radio 1 show, Amazing Radio and being added to the BBC Introducing Hot List." Marcus has performed several times for us, and on each occasion leaves the customers wanting more! We have a varied type of customer, from hotel guests travelling from all parts of the globe, to locals who come to dine, or for a drink. The one thing they all have in common is that they appreciate a talented musician when they hear one, and that’s just what Marcus is. I look forward to seeing him perform with us again soon.
