About Magnolia Sky

Acoustic folk rock band ready to party.
Mumford folk band
London
Public liability insurance of £2 million
Verified profile

This pop rock band comes in a 3 or 4 piece line up to fit different floor spaces and hearts’ desires. This band is half British, half Italian. Italy makes some pretty good pasta dishes, but we can guarantee their musicians outshine even the tastiest of lasagnes! Brendan leads the way in this band having studied at the British Institute of Modern Music (BIMM). His favourite genre is folk rock, and that’s reflected in the band’s repertoire. Brendan is backed by two Joes (!) one on drums and the other on bass, and the band’s fourth member is Paolo on lead guitar. Collectively the band has studied at BIMM, Canterbury Christchurch University and ICMP London in commercial music, popular music performance, and songwriting - so it’s fair to say they know their stuff! You might have seen these lads playing at The Garage, The Roisin Dubh, Newark Festival, The Ritz, The Gherkin, Quaglino’s, Royal Albert Hall and the Reading & Leeds Festival. They’ve got an extensive repertoire of over 100 songs covering largely pop, multiple styles of rock, folk, and the ever favourite pop rock across the decades - just take a look! Once you’ve booked the band you can count on excellent and fast communication, as well as having full control over what songs the band plays on your special night. The band will make sure they’re 100% on the same page as you well in advance of your event. They’ll also bring their best party tricks for your guests to tap into between our sets, including letting your guests guess who won a cutest baby competition, who has a ‘twisty’ thumb, who used to play rugby for the USA professionally, and who has trained their cat to sit, stand and high five on command! The band works as part of a collective, which means should any band member not be able to make the gig for whatever reason, there will always be someone to jump in and ensure a seamless performance no matter what. The band brings a full PA and lighting rig with them wherever they go too!

Customer questions

Do you have different line-up options?

Our line-up is as follows: Lead Vocals / Guitar, Bass, Lead Guitar, Drums. We can also do a 3-piece line up if needed.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

We always try our best to be flexible to help ensure your event runs as smoothly as possible. If timings change slightly in the run up to the event just let us know.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Absolutely. This is a really popular request and we actually offer this service for free. If you'd like a Pro-DJ service via our PA for before, in between and after live sets, we provide this for an additional £278.

How much time do you need to set up?

We usually set up about 1 to 1.5 hours before the performance time. As soon as our PA is set up we can provide a free playlist service to help set the atmosphere and get your guests ready for our live performance!

Can you roam around while you perform?

No, unfortunately, we're not wireless! One day!! :)

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

Yes! We've got over 100 songs you can pick from. :)

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA & lighting) included in your quote?

Our PA and lighting system is included in your quote. We usually require a minimum of 3m by 4m space to perform

Can you learn song requests before the event?

If a song isn't included in our song list there may still be a chance we already know it. If there is a special song you'd like us to learn we are happy to do this for you. There is a fee of £50 for additional 'off-the-menu' songs to take into account rehearsal times etc.

What do your clients love most about your performances?

They love our laid back nature and our musical tone. We take great pride in crafting a beautiful sound, both through the way we play our instruments and through the quality of our instruments.

The guys were absolutely brilliant! They had a great energy, were amazing with my little siblings and got some of my guests up singing with them! Honestly could not have asked for a better band, good vibes all round! :)

These guys were brilliant!!! The band were joined last minute by a stand in lead singer and you would never have guessed. They were completely brilliant performers and had the marquee rocking all night. Technically brilliant but more than that - in tune with our guests and reading the room! They were also patient, kind, polite and super friendly- thanks so much guys it was an absolute joy to have you at our wedding!!! Everybody loved it!! Xx

Thank you so much for your kind words, Faye! So glad Michael and the band smashed it for you, Chris, and your guests! And always such a big compliment when a musician client says the band is 'technically brilliant', so thank you very much for that. It really means a lot. Hopefully, our paths cross again soon. Super warmest wishes, Rhona (Band Manager) & Magnolia Sky ❤️

Disappointed in this band no engagement and messed up quite a few songs

Hi Rachel & Dean,  Thank you for your patience while I gathered feedback from the band.  As a whole, the band has been taken aback by the feedback, as they felt they carried out a good performance, and were in positive spirits throughout. I asked them each individually how they felt each other's attitude were toward the gig, and they all confirmed that everyone in the band was happy, amicable, and enjoyed themselves. I also had a note from the band before your feedback came through, saying that it was a good gig, which I feel they wouldn't have said if they felt it had been a bad gig in their eyes. The band also reported that people kept coming up to them during their performance saying that they were doing a good job. I have several photos of the band from the night where they are smiling, laughing, and joking around too. It did seem like they were in positive spirits from those photos.  Brendan, the lead singer, also felt that he put on a performance for you as well. To confirm, he most definitely did want to be performing for you both and your guests, so if there are specific things that occurred that made you feel otherwise it would be very helpful to know what these were to ensure this misunderstanding doesn't happen again.  For Teenage Dirtbang, the bassist started in the wrong key, and after 4 bars, Brendan made the call to restart the song in the right key. Key changes in songs happen to accommodate the vocalist's range. Often key changes can be unnoticeable to the audience, however, if one musician is playing in a different key to the rest of the instruments/vocals it can make the song sound off, and it can also throw the lead vocalist off, which is why Brendan made the call to quickly restart the song. It should also be noted that instructions for keys were given in advance, however, it is a human mistake to start a song in a different key, and as much as the band aims to ensure this doesn't happen at all, it can in rare circumstances occur.  Guitar strings definitely do break, this is something that happens to the best of musicians, and if it happens when they are performing, they need to do their best to continue playing with a reduced number of strings using different positioning in order to get to the end of the song, and at which point they can then restring, or pick up their second guitar if they have one with them. Sometimes musicians have a second guitar on standby for certain effects, tones, or sounds, or to avoid needing to restring, especially if they aren't going to be able to do this quickly. If an original band is on stage they tend to be performing for a shorter period of time, like 30 minutes, and often are performing at music venues where PA is supplied. Magnolia Sky brings their own PA and lighting system, which means they have limited space to bring additional instruments too. The band also has a longer window to perform, such as up to 2 hours, and often a more flexible schedule. Therefore they would keep in mind that if they took two minutes to restring, and then they would stay on stage for at least those two minutes longer to make up the time. Often if the band is in control of the in-between set music they might pop on a playlist while restringing is happening. However, they didn't have a playlist set up, as you had an external DJ arranged, and so instead, I understand that the drummer and bassist continued to jam an instrumental version of a Chic song that had guests dancing during the 2-minute restring.  I also took on board your comment over Whatsapp where you mentioned that a few people helped with sound check, however, the band reported that they had the levels set, and they were happy with them. The band confirmed it was one person from the audience who came up and asked them to adjust the levels. The band accommodated this request as they always aim to be open and flexible at all times. Accommodating requests of clients, their guests, and venue staff is part and parcel of being a professional musician.  I'm sorry to hear that you felt disappointed with the band's performance. Definitely, the level of engagement from bands can vary from band to band, and the desired level of engagement can vary from client to client. In retrospect, it would have been useful to know that you wanted a lot of audience interaction, as the band would have been more than happy to accommodate this request. This could have been written in the Notes section provided in the Event Sheet or mentioned to me directly and I could have ensured the band focused a lot on getting people singing with them, doing 'question and answer' callbacks with the audience, looping choruses, chatting more with the audience between songs, and having people join them on stage. I hope the explanation above helps with the few points that were raised. If there is any other specific feedback you would like to share with me, please do let me know.  Sincerely,  Rhona Band Manager

Wow - what can I say?! After a stressful morning not knowing if the groom was going to make the wedding due to a sudden case of norovirus we were having to change the timings and be as flexible as possible. We were an hour late starting our first dance but the band didn’t complain and just went with it. They are even better live and made our evening celebrations despite my husband not being able to stay up - I partied for the both of us! So many people commented on how good they were and we will certainly be hiring again for our big milestone birthdays! Thank you so much Magnolia Sky!
