String quartet
Birmingham
Public liability insurance of £10 million

The Lumos String Quartet have been making music together in the Birmingham area for several years. As accomplished individual musicians in their own rights, the quartet got together while studying at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire where their shared commitment to the highest calibre of music making, connected them. The quartet pride themselves on their bold, exciting repertoire choices and interpretations and are always open to experimenting with new and interesting music and challenges. The players of the Lumos String Quartet have played hundreds of weddings, birthdays, and functions between them and as such have a wealth of experience to draw from. The quartet feel that versatility is vital because they understand that, because no two couples are alike, no two weddings should sound the same. “I love playing for people’s weddings. It always feels like such a privilege to play a part in a couple’s happiest moment.” - Nick, violist for LSQ. Over the years, they have collected and curated a “playlist” of songs and pieces expertly selected to match any setting or taste. Whether you are looking to elevate the level of sophistication of your event, or are looking to make your special moment that extra bit magical, the Lumos String Quartet have the perfect backing track. Meet the players! Tomohiko Kimura - 1st violin Tomohiko Kimura is an accomplished violinist who holds a Masters in violin performance from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. String quartet music has been a lifelong passion of his that has culminated in him being appointed as first violin for the Lumos String Quartet. Tomo feels that being included in someone’s special day is a privilege and relishes performing for people especially in personal settings. Benjamin Isaac - 2nd violin Originally from Maesteg, Wales, Benjamin holds a Master's in Violin Performance with Distinction, from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. He has performed with numerous orchestras and ensembles throughout the country performing in some of the UK's most prestigious concert halls. Nick Fidler - viola Nick Fidler (actual birth name), is a South African violist with a wealth of international experience learning, teaching and performing. Although he has performed as a soloist for several orchestras in South Africa, string quartet music is his greatest love. This love has been reciprocated over the years when he was afforded the privilege of performing in a string quartet for Archbishop Desmond Tutu, as well as for the memorial service of Winnie Mandela in Westminster Abbey. Flora McNicoll - cello Having recently graduated from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire with BMus(Hons), Flora is now following this with a postgraduate performance course. Having won tuition with City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, WNO and Birmingham Royal Ballet, Flora has enjoyed learning from and playing with top orchestras around the UK. Originally from London, her musical philosophy is as multifaceted as her hometown. Flora’s love of ensemble playing is evident - feeling at home anywhere from String Quartets to Joe Broughton’s Conservatoire Folk Ensemble.

We booked Lumos String trio to play at our wedding and cannot recommend them highly enough. Tomo was extremely responsive and helpful, answering all my questions about timings of songs for walking down the aisle etc. We certainly had a few guests in tears just from the music before I had even walked down the aisle! They also played for our reception and we loved their wide repertoire of modern and classical songs. They made the day really special and I would definitely recommend them!

Lumos were just outstanding at our wedding, and I can't recommend them highly enough. We had the luxury of choosing from a huge classical and modern repertoire and their performance on the day was absolutely brilliant. Communication ahead of the day was excellent, and their professionalism on the day helped things run smoothly and stress free. We just hope that we can find a way to hear them play again, this time with slightly less distraction!

We were lucky enough to have Lumos String Quartet play during the service of our wedding in August this year. We loved the repertoire they offered and the variety of classic and modern songs. So many of our guests have commented to say how impressed they were and how they contributed to such a special service. They even accommodated a very late bride by filling in the wait time. Would thoroughly recommend for weddings or other events. Thanks to the team.
