Louisa Kate

My name is Louisa, and I am a 22-year-old singer, guitarist, and tabla player. I have recently completed a bachelor's degree at Newcastle University in folk and traditional music where I spent three years honing my musical craft and learning about the historical, theoretical, and compositional aspects of various types of music but specifically the traditional music of England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. I also chose a module named Indian Music in Practice where I had the opportunity to learn to play the tabla which is now a strong part of my musicianship. Additionally, due to my strong interest in Italy and my knowledge of the language, I did some independent study of traditional Italian music. My study and passion for music goes back many years as I studied GCSE music and then went to Leeds Conservatoire to study a Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Pop Music. During my two years at Leeds Conservatoire, I explored many genres of popular music. Some of these genres included blues, funk, soul, electronic, and reggae. The course was very beneficial in my musical career as it allowed me to develop a varied and entertaining repertoire. Additionally, during these years, I began having vocal training to have an advanced understanding of my voice. As I finished my diploma, I decided to have a gap year before I started university to develop my musical skills further. In that year, I continued having vocal training and went on to complete my grade 8 voice exam with Rockschool and received a mark of 93%. For the exam, I prepared five pieces to perform which were: Empire State of Mind by Alicia Keys, Chandelier by Sia, Stop by Jamelia, Footprints in the Sand by Leona Lewis, and Power of Love by Celine Dion. Alongside my education I have performed at various venues and events since the age of 16 including parties, celebrations, café bars, corporate events, and supporting events. My excellent history of education combined with my extensive performance experience makes me very happy I decided to pursue music as a career. I can perform in a laid-back folk and acoustic style due to my degree in folk music or I can play an upbeat style due to my pop background. I am available for a wide variety of events so get in touch!
