Katie Bamford

Katie Bamford (1995) is a composer of contemporary classical music from Northern Ireland. She graduated from Durham University in 2016 with a First Class BA (Hons) in music, having specialised in composition and performance, and attained an MPhil in Music Composition from Trinity College Dublin in 2017. In past years she has been a winner of the 3rd ORTUS International New Music Competition, an invited emerging composer at the University of Southampton and an internationally selected participant for the Fusion Film Scoring Workshop in Thessaloniki for which she received a travel grant from Arts Council NI. Her choral music has been widely performed in the USA and Europe, broadcasted on Texas Public Radio and BBC Radio 3 and is published with Cailíno Music Publishers. Most recently, she was selected as one of Hard Rain Soloist Ensemble’s Early Career Commisions - funded by the PRS Foundation as part of its Talent Development Scheme - and has been a graduate teaching assistant in music composition at the University of York. Katie is also a pianist. As a teenager she was a finalist in the Catherine Judge Memorial Award and was awarded a DipLCM in Piano Performance with Distinction. She chose to concentrate on piano performance, alongside composition, as an undergraduate and achieved first-class marks throughout. She works as an accompanist, private teacher and plays at weddings and events.
