Birmingham based Violinist

Karel grew up in Prague where he has enjoyed wonderful opportunities of chamber playing. He left Prague after winning the Concerto Bohemia competition in 2012 as part of the La Follia chamber ensemble. Karel is an Honours Graduate from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire where he studied on a scholarship under the tutelage of Susanne Stanzeleit. Over the past three years he has enjoyed performing in a wide range of ensembles performing music from folk and contemporary to classical chamber music to large scale orchestral works. Highlights have to be working with the likes of Michael Seal, Barry Wordsworth and Sir Richard Armstrong whilst playing in the RBC Symphony Orchestra as co-principal second violin. He has recently enjoyed working with the Welsh National Opera and the Orchestra of the Swan during their visits to Birmingham. Karel is an avid member of many student lead ensembles such as The Ripieno Players and Fantasia Orchestra. In 2019 he was notably the co-principal performing Richard Strauss Metamorphosen in St Philip’s Cathedral, Birmingham. Alongside his orchestral interests Karel is a keen chamber musician. His experience ranges from early music to contemporary and modern genres in a variety of ensemble sizes from duos to quintets and octets. He is one of the founding members of the Brook Piano Trio, having recently performed a series of Schubert recitals. In addition he has been invited to perform at various chamber music festivals. Karel is an avid teacher and has had a variety of students. With more than three years of experience preparing his students for ABRSM examinations all the way to auditions for the highest level of playing. His expertise ranges from beginners to a student who secured offers from the top UK conservatoires through her auditions. For the past two years he has been part of the Melody group where he is committed to instrumental teaching for people with learning disabilities. "I believe in building a solid foundation based on the understanding of technique and expanding musicianship skills. My focus is developing the students’ technique and musicianship alongside their performance skills and most importantly enjoyment through playing!" I have experience with systems of learning and maintaining healthy and appropriate posture whilst playing. These include Alexander technique and the Feldenkrais Method. I am DBS checked and belong to the Musicians' Union which covers me for public liability insurance.
