About Jools

A uniquely uplifting wedding experience!
Public liability insurance of £10 million

I trained young as a classical violinist for 10 years before adopting the electric guitar where throughout 20 years I learned the genres of rock, jazz, country, folk, modern pop covers and original music. For the last 17 years I have focused on the violin, 12 of which I have spent as a member of the well known Doc Brown Trio with Wes Finch, transferring my guitar skills to my existing classical background and playing as many as 180 gigs annually throughout Britain. This combination of focus on different styles and instruments has allowed me to interpret and express myself, crossing musical boundaries and delivering emotions to the listener that uniquely excel the everyday expectations of a violin. I have further referenced this freedom in my work as a solo violinist, reimagining bluegrass, classical and pop tunes into my own arrangements accessible to more audiences. My talent has been sought after by music producers and musicians alike, allowing me to add my personal touch to their productions. My contributions have been released on 24 albums over the last 10 years, plus on an additional 5 compilation albums. Highlights of my career have been membership of the Country and Western band “Honky Tonk Rose” with Horace Panter (The Specials), aswell as orchestral appearances on the X-Factor with Susan Boyle and at the Schools’ Prom at the Royal Albert Hall with Nigel Kennedy. Additionally, an appearance at the Irish Heritage Festival with Sean (The Dubliners) and Robert Cannon. Further highlights have been performances at venues such as The Barbican Centre, Birmingham Symphony Hall, and Stratford’s Royal Shakespeare Theatre for a BBC Radio 3 live broadcast performance celebrating 400 years of Shakespeare alongside performers such as Rufus Wainwright and Peter Knight (Steeleye Span). My clients have described my playing as “uniquely uplifting”, with “a strong connection to the audience”. “Jools has an ability to thrive in challenging musical situations”, with “an enviable ability to work quickly and effectively within a very wide range of musical styles”. I am described as “a highly flexible and talented musician with a genuine concern for the end result” and “always prepared to take a risk with his music and challenge boundaries with fine delivery”. Please get in touch if you would like to discuss booking me for your event. I’d love to hear from you.

Customer questions

Do you have different line-up options?

Line up for solo weddings is Violin. There is the option for solo (unaccompanied) violin which can be played acoustically (unamplified) or through a PA system. Alternatively, performances can be played with backing tracks (available only with PA system)

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

I can be flexible with timings to a degree.

How much time do you need to set up?

I would recommend 45 minutes to set up with a PA system. Without a PA system I can be ready inside of 10/15 minutes.

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

If you have favourites from my set list, I am happy to try to include these in my performance.

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

Yes - I bring all my own equipment sufficient to perform. I would require a power source if performing through my PA system. I do not carry lighting, however.

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

I am happy to look at specific pieces as an addition to my set list. There is a fee of £60 for up to 3x additional pieces. Requests should be made at least 14 days prior to the performance to ensure sufficient time to prepare.

Jools Street performed at the Playhouse sessions in Stratford between lockdowns last year. He performed after 2 strong acts which is always a tough gig. What you got was high quality music accompanied by Jools’s relaxed demeanour. Jools give a thoughtful description of each tune with humour a constant thread throughout which helped build a strong relationship with the audience. Jools is always prepared to take a risk with his music and challenge boundaries with fine delivery. Already re booked him for later this year

Just wanted to say thanks again for coming down the studio last week. Those violin parts sound brilliant. They’ve really brought the whole album in to focus. Nearly complete now!
