About John

Uilleann piper, Whistle player and Traditional Irish multi instrumentalist. More than 30 years experience. Weddings and Funerals
Uilleann pipes
London
Public liability insurance of £10 million

I am a multi instrumentalist, Singer, composer and Uilleann piper with more than 30 years experience performing and recording. I learned my traditional Irish music on the Irish session scene, in and around London, since the mid 1970s. I have been working with families for more than 30 years on musical arrangements for special events be it Wedding, Funeral or other special Celebration and have always been well received. I was regularly called upon to play at receptions held in the Irish Embassy London between 2007 and 2021 and I coordinated a group that are the first Musicians to ever perform traditional Irish Music at a Royal Reception in Buckingham Palace in 2013. I also got an opportunity to perform for King Charles and Queen Camilla in 2022 when they visited the Irish Cultural Centre London. I also write and record original music and released my debut Solo Album ‘P.L.A.Y.’ , in 2009, followed by two further studio albums, ‘The Devine Waters’ in 2011, ‘An Lon Dubh’ 2012 , plus the EP ‘The Gap Between the Two Trapezes’ 2015. My latest Album, ‘Notions’ was released to critical acclaim in May 2022. I Toured and recorded with ‘Grunge Folk’ legend Wild Willy Barrett for more than 15 years and recently recorded with Guitar legend Gordon Giltrap, Tom Toomey (Zombies) and Jakko Jakszyk (King Crimson). I have been collaborating on creative projects with Irish Poet, Playwright and Author Seamus O’Rourke since 2017. I recently toured with ‘The Messages’ that feature members of Celtic Super group ‘Kila’ and ‘The Hank Wangford Band’. I spent the end of 2022 performing Folk music on Cunard Ocean Liners Queen Mary 2 and The Queen Victoria and visited Amsterdam, Norway, New York and the Caribbean. Nice things people have said about My Album ‘Notions’ ‘Totally and absolutely Brilliant” Mike Harding, Folk Legend, Performer and Broadcaster. Host of ‘The Folk Podcast’ “A Work of Genius.......Probably” Guitar Legend Gordon Giltrap ‘This Album Consistently hits the spot” R&R Magazine

John was the business from start to finish- from the moment we started communicating with him, everything was nice and easy, and stress free for our wedding day plan. He arrived on the day way ahead of schedule, was set up and played us into our venue, and then to our guests while having dinner. It really made the atmosphere perfect. John is incredibly talented and it was a pleasure to have him play on our wedding day. Thanks John, you're a gent! Mr and Mrs Lawlor

John is an exceptionally gifted multi-instrumentalist who has graced numerous Luton Irish Forum community events over the last 15 years. We were thrilled when he permitted us to use his music collection in our documentary about Luton St Patrick’s Festival, "Paint the Town Green," which significantly enhanced the storytelling. John is an approachable, adaptable, and trustworthy professional.

The Irish Cultural Centre in Hammersmith, the UK’s Premiere Centre for Irish Arts, has presented John Devine, as a solo artist and also with his band ‘Devines’ in concert, on many occasions and we can confirm without hesitation that John and the trio ‘Devines’ are absolutely outstanding acts. During lockdown we invited John’s acoustic trio ‘Devines’ to perform a special Lockdown concert at the ICC, in which they blended a mix of original songs, unique compositions, contemporary arrangements of folk songs and their own unique brand of Irish ‘trad’, on an array of instruments, including uilleann pipes, banjo and saxophone. This free to watch concert created a big and powerful sound it was a huge success which went global and the concert is still being enjoyed throughout the world today. As a solo artist, John is an extremely versatile, gifted multi-instrumentalist and he is also an extraordinary, unique and original singer songwriter, whose songs are poetic, deeply touching and immensely powerful. We were delighted to present the UK launch of John Devine’s album “Notions” here at the ICC in May 2022, which was a sublime concert, blending ‘Irish trad’ with rock, jazz and contemporary sounds and even incorporating poetry and the spoken word. The concert here at the ICC raised certainly the rafters and attracted a sell-out crowd. Because we consider John Devine to be a unique, high quality, musical artist, we have often invited him to be a special live guest on our monthly Irish arts Radio Show “Bright Side Of The Road” – which is broadcast on Portobello Radio, London most exciting Independent Radio station. We also invited John to be one of the special Irish musicians to perform for King Charles and Queen Camilla when they made a special Royal Visit to the ICC in 2022. We can absolutely assure you that John and Devines are top class acts who are reliable, highly professional and who always provide excellent first class entertainment.

Yes indeed! I have a small PA, big enough for most wedding venues and can stream playlists from your device or mine for an additional £150
