Joe Tucker

Joe is an accomplished Sousaphone and Tuba player from Southampton, who is now based in London. Having received a First Class Honours degree in Classical Music Performance from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, he is now performing regularly in brass bands and orchestras around the UK. Joe’s playing is described by friends and colleagues as full of life and exuberance, choosing to dance and vibe with the crowd, showing his outgoing personality. Capable of performing in multiple styles, he studied classical music and has a wealth of experience with orchestras and classical brass bands, and has taken up more popular music through pop brass bands, as well as jazz and New Orleans genres. Since moving to London, Joe co-founded Big Smoke Brass - UK with 6 other musicians. They have grown to become one of London’s most sought after pop brass bands, regularly performing at weddings, festivals, corporate events and more. Highlights include playing at Boardmasters, to a crowd of over 2000 people, and Lost Village festival for Birra Moretti. In 2019, he joined Das Brass as their regular sousaphone player, and has many performing highlights to his name through them. He played at Glastonbury festival with them and Brass Rascals, as well as Wilderness and Camp Bestival, and is regularly involved in corporate events, weddings, birthday parties etc. In classical music, Joe has played with Big Smoke Brass at various churches and venues, as well as winning the Philip Jones Ensemble Prize at Trinity Laban with the group. He has also played with different orchestras at Trinity Laban, and external like West London Sinfonia and St Paul’s Sinfonia. Other performing credits: Thursford Christmas Spectacular, M&S Christmas Advert, appearing in ‘Rocketman’ film, winner of Senior Cup at British Brass Band Spring Open 2023 with Thundersley Brass Band, and many more. Joe’s main aim with performing is to bring music to life and put smiles on people’s faces. He has an infectious passion when playing, whether sat in a church or on stage at a festival.
