Joe Shrimpling

My first Instrument is the guitar, I started learning at the age of 10/11. I now enjoy playing guitar in a number of projects in genres such as Math Rock and Big Band Jazz. I was turned onto Composition by my music tutor and now I spend hours on end long into to the night slaving over keyboards and manuscript. I like to experiment with different instruments and sounds; and as a consequence I have written Progressive Dance music to pieces for Chamber orchestras. I currently study Composition at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Hot House Atlanta.jpgis a youth jazz orchestra centred around Derby and Buxton (United Kingdom). I have played with them for 4 years and it has seen a massive leap in my musical understanding especially from a jazz perspective. As a result of playing with them jazz influences can be seen scattered throughout my work. I attended the 2013 Jazz Education Network conference in Atlanta with Hot House’s ‘Screaming Kicks’ big band for which I played piano and co-directed. I composed two of the pieces for the band especially and I now currently reside as their composer in residence.
