Joe started playing piano at the age of 16, he passed grade 8 classical piano with merit at the age of 18 and has since then started exploring a variety of contemporary styles, from Jazz and Blues to Musical Theatre and Pop. Joe has performed across the UK as part of The Alleycats contemporary A Cappella group, both in national and international competitions, and at a multitude of private functions. He also toured the eastern United States with them as a tenor and their musical director in 2015. He has been musical director for productions of RENT and Hedwig and the Angry Inch, playing keyboard and being commended for his strong work with voices. As a Piano-Vocalist and Keyboard player, he has played a sell-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe for the last 2 years with both a Billy Joel and Elton John tribute show. He performs regularly in various function bands and as a solo performer.

Joe was fantastic from start to finish. Great communication throughout booking and postponements. Very professional, you just knew he would know what to do on the day and what was best for a wedding ceremony. On the day he was fab, great singing and set and nice chilled tone for the ceremony and drinks reception. Defiantly recommend!

Joe did an incredible job performing at our wedding. Not only was he very receptive to discussions around musical cues for timing my arrival down the aisle but the performance itself could not have been better - book-ending the ceremony with an instrumental and then vocal version of our favourite song. Afterwards Joe performed for our guests whilst we were away having our pictures taken - which took longer than was anticipated but Joe was extremely accommodating and continued to play during this time. We also received many remarks from our guests about the standard of his musicianship. I would 100% recommend Joe to anyone and thank him immensely for helping make our big day so memorable!

We loved having Joe play for us on our wedding day at Balbirnie house. He was so easy to work with and had excellent communication with us running up to the event. We really wanted a live pianist for when I walked down the aisle and some chilled out background music for our drinks reception. We received lovely comments on our ceremony song of tiny dancer which sounded incredible on the piano. Joe made planning songs and playlists so easy and sent us over a great sample of songs that he already knew and was so accommodating to learn any new songs that we really wanted. When you have so many thing to plan for a wedding this was probably the easiest one to organise. I would definitely recommend joe and encore.

Wedding ceremony

This includes instrumental music before the service begins, up to two songs of your choice during the signing of the register (this is usually what people are after). Instrumental music also provided as guests leave.

I can dep for other musicians on both Keyboards and Lead Vocals. Provided i'm not already out gigging i'd be happy to hear from you regarding this.

What do your clients love most about your performances?

Clients always comment on the quality of sound and the variety of music, both of which i'm very proud of. As a singer as well as pianist, I am just as at home paying instrumental classical music as I am with up-beat pop.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

I've performed at many venues around Scotland, from Inverness to the Boarders, as well as to nearby to my hometown of Stafford in the midlands. I've also done 5 years at the Edinburgh fringe in venues all over the centre of the city.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

Always a tricky one, but as a singer, David Bowie and Prince. And as a Pianist/Keyboardist, Chopin and Herbie Hancock As a combination of the two, Stevie Wonder and Freddie Mercury.

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

I've performed in the National A Cappella championships multiple times with my university group.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

I will always do my best to accommodate changes in timings/schedules, as I understand when panning events the unforeseen can happen. As long as you let me know I don't anticipate any issues with slight changes to schedule.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

I have a connector for my amplification system for this exact purpose. I don't set my own playlists, but am happy to plug in any device you have your favourite tunes on. It plays right out of a headphone jack, it couldn't be simpler.

How much time do you need to set up?

I can have everything unloaded and set-up in under half an hour, it's very portable being usually only me.

If I have a piano at my venue, are you happy to perform on that?

Of course - as long as the piano is in working order and in tune, then that totally satisfies my requirements. I would advise that if i'm singing as well that perhaps a better sound comes from my amp and keyboard set-up, but I do understand that aesthetically a real piano is often preferable for solo piano.

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

I group my setlist by genre and style to ensure you can do this as easily as possible. I'm also happy to choose what to play to fit the mood, or a combination of the two.

Are you able to bring your own piano or keyboard?

Yes, I bring my own set-up as standard, this includes an amplifier, microphone and keyboard.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

Included in any booking is the option to request 2 specific songs I don't already know. This works especially well for walking down the aisle for example. I also play my own arrangement of 'Happy Birthday' if that's required.
